The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have a mate in Sega's Euro PR department. I'll see if I can get any info out of him.

OK, looking like a major "go!" from Sega. Still waiting for my mate to come online so I can interrogate him

This is so awesome. Just last week I played the "Alien Extermination" arcade game and it was the greatest thing ever. Pulse Rifle sounds, Colonial Marines, accurate-looking colony... it was just the best. If these games are half as good as that was, I'll be ready to buy, regardless of price.

OK marines, some digging has been done. Sega are not developing an Aliens game, merely publishing.

Who is developing? Well, two studios names have been mentioned, so it sounds like two games. One a first person shooter, one an RPG.

www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/44985

Two developers rumoured to be linked to the project are Gearbox (Half Life bits, Brothers in Arms) and Obsidian (Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic 2). Of course my contact could neither confirm or deny these names.

www.obsidianent.com/

Hmmm, I see Obsidian are recruiting artists... pity I am in the UK.

2008 is soooo far away now :(

also found this on the blueyonder pages

Having earlier announced it had secured the Alien film license, SEGA has now announced that Gearbox Software, the acclaimed developer of the Brothers in Arms franchise, is to head up development of an all-new Alien-licensed first-person shooter for next-gen systems.

Gearbox Software's FPS based on the Alien film franchise will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the films, but promises to leverage "next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Alien experience."

"The Alien series has been a tremendous influence for myself, the people at Gearbox Software and the video games industry in general," said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. "The opportunity to work with the amazing people at SEGA and Fox to build a next generation video game in the Alien universe is one of those dream projects that is a perfect fit for our capability and our passion."

No release date has been announced, but SEGA have said that the first title to use the Alien license will be released in 2009. The FPS joins the previously announced Alien RPG in development by Obsidian Entertainment.

""The Alien series has been a tremendous influence for myself, the people at Gearbox Software and the video games industry in general," said Randy Pitchford,"

I don`t trust R Pritchford. And hate it when I see them whore a franchise and hype like this. Monolith said the same thing, and turned AVP 2 into a quaker.
