I like the flatter second prototype - more in line with modern military "warfare devices". Reminds me of paratrooper wings or my own Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist wings, etc.
WikipediaThere's a list of just the Navy's warfare badges alone. There's a LOT of em. The Marine Corps doesn't have many of their own - they're technically still part of the Navy (although you'll never get one to admit it, lol). Marine pilots wear the same wings as Navy pilots, for example. One particularly snazzy-looking exception is the
Marine Combat Aircrewman Badge.
One thing that kinda caught my imagination when I saw this post was that it reminded me of a brand new warfare badge that the Navy approved just last year - the
Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist badge. I could totally see this idea growing into a project to design an entire line of Colonial Marine warfare badges - from dropship pilot and combat aircrewman wings to a "space expeditionary warfare" badge. How badass would that be!
I'd really love to pitch in on this... Send me an email at
