The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey all,

Can anyone tell me what the back of Hicks' armor says in kanji? I have searched the forum here, and the internet with no luck.

Thanks!

"Kick me!"

(Inside joke among the wardrobe dept. after James Remar's departure from initial production).

:P

Actually I'm not sure if any of us actually found the answer to this one. :)

You had me going for a minute there Kev -- I almost fell for it!

Hmmm... this topic seems eerily familiar to me. I know it was discussed before, but for some reason I seem to recall someone having had worked up a loose translation of it. Doesn't Rook have some Kanji on his armour, or... hmmm, I tend to recall something on the front of an APC or a tank or something. All I know for sure is that someone here knew something about it at sometime or another. How's that for being nearly completely useless. :P

Of course then again it might have been one of the many off-topic discussions regarding the use of Kanji in Firefly and Serenity, including the Blue Sun logo...

In that case... nevermind. ;)

The most famous USCM kanji to us guys is on the Smartgunner chest plate - though I forget exactly what it said. There was a long discussion of that, to memory. Someone'll remember.

Well if you really want to know the whole story behind the smartgunner's Kanji script... (no joke this time- I promise :) )

The characters translate into "Jade" and "Pieces". This is taken from an old Chinese proverb that goes...

"Rather to be broken pieces of Jade,
Than an intact piece of clay."

It is a metaphor about living your life. Jade is precious and clay is worthless. So it is better to have died with a precious life, than to be living the life of a worthless man.

The whole thing has to do with honour and your moral code- it very loosely can mean "Die Properly".

It is in my AL board sig banner.

I also had it tattooed on my shoulder:

Hope this helps!

Broken Jade is pretty cool.
