Now this is some very heart warming news.
Thank you for sharing.

He bought it just to turn around and sell it?

Ah, the double edged sword of someone "recognizing its value". Great that they 'saved' it from an unknown fate. Bit of a bummer they seemingly only did so to flip it...but more power to them. I'm sure it wasn't cheap and if they are knowledgeable in the 1/6th communities, they should do pretty well.

Overall its great that it sounds like everything will end up in the hands of true fans who will forever care for it all in the end. Couldn't really ask for more.

Trying to keep it low key as far as I know he doesn't know much about this group. I have no interest in it I have no room nor money enough to do it justice. He seems more interested in the 1/6 colonial marine armor., which means he is pouring lots of little parts since none of the molds were labeled and checking their viability. Also is inventorying everything else in the estate for sale.

Has he mentioned how he found out about these items being up for grabs?

That is great news about the APC. :-)

I have seen 1/6 parts on ebay. I know years back I bought a Hudson sculpt and knife with cover from Chris; trying to remember what the knife looked like and this looked the same. What caught my eye was that at the bottom he's put 'I buy estates' so I wondered.

(Note this is not my auction.)

No he did not. I was under the impression from the lawyer that someone from Florida had purchased the estate. I don't know if he is a local or just moved here. Less questions the better at the moment. I asked too many questions to the estate lawyer about his things and never got any real good answers except lawyer doublespeak.

And we all know talking to a lawyer about anything is like teaching a pig to sing:

IT WASTES YOUR TIME AND ANNOYS THE PIG!

And as before the less questions asked the more info I get:

The APC will go up on eBay in February. There are some other items from Chris' estate if you look under the seller name j.r.mejia on eBay. His company name is legends and heroes. He is cleaning up the APC now and will send some photos my way soon. Stay tuned.

I know Rex collects/builds 1:6 scale stuff. Willie of course has the Aliens Collection.

Does anyone have any thoughts of doing a group donation/buy, so that the AL is
able to "keep it in the family" so to speak? I'd hate have to have some random buy it,
never to have it seen again. The proviso would be that whoever "buys" it with a group donation,
agrees to keep it in the community and not sell it for a quick buck.

Thoughts?

I never knew Chris but I'd be glad to help in this small way!

Yup, was thinking of something like this too.
Would also help stop us bidding against each other (which would suck).

Although I'd LOVE to be the 'Holder of the APC', living at the bottom of the world doesn't make that very practical [shipping and whatnot], so yup, I'd be more than happy to contribute to a group fund for a nominated member to try and purchase Chris' APC.
Might need to be on the proviso that if the APC was missed out on, then money would be returned (less fees / whatever), or maybe donated to forum upkeep or a charity.

Exactly what I thought on returning the funds.

Anyone else? Thoughts? Ideally it should go to someone who can A) Repair the damage B) Keep it safe/Accessible location.

Paul (Mantroon) is in Atlanta, so in theory it could be accessible for Dragoncon display purposes,
but long term storage might be an issue for him.

Rex is detail oriented, and as I mentioned before, into 1:6 scale figures/modeling, so he'd be suitable
for repairing any damage.

Again, I'm just tossing names out there who may not even be interested.

Speak up please on either a curator name, or donating funds.

Russ

I've been involved in the 1/6th hobby both as an a hobby and as a professional. I'd be estatic to retstore Chris's APC!

That's how Chris and I first met by the way, in a 1/6th forum chatting about what else, Colonial Marines! :)

As far as shipping it, I used to ship prototypes to China, I know how to get it here and there in one piece. :)

***EDITED: Specific details of suggested plan to chip in a la 'buying shares' of APC removed as it never caught on and only cluttered up the thread***

...
But these are just suggestions. I'm no lawyer, so if the topic is worth exploring or elaborating on, then we should get cracking so we are ready to pounce when the auction goes live. Suffice to say, I no longer plan to bid as an individual on this item and I will not be competing against 'the board' for it.
However the board moves on this, I will support it to make sure FNGs legacy stays in-house.

I think transparency is really important. I think preventing an internal bidding war is also really important.
