The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I've been working on my display of Hudson's armor gradually over the course of several months. A while back, it occurred to me that board members might like a tutorial in tying the "Japanese sacred knot" that can be seen in Hudson's eagle bolo, so I prepared the following instructions.

My guess is that it may be easier to tie the knot by following the photos and ignoring the text... but I've included the text anyway, just in case the photos aren't clear.

I hope this will be useful to some of you!

Absolutely, dude. One good tie deserves another!

(lear60man taught me to tie Hudson's braided parachute cord necklace... in about 30 seconds!)

So it seems there was a good reason after all. 8)

I'm happy to know that I have played a small but significant part in a Japanese sacred knot coming to adorn the front of a leather corset!

Thanks, guys!

I'll look into doing one for the parachute cord, too.

But for now...

D'oh!

Bandwidth exceeded.

I deleted a bunch of other images from the hosting site, but the total bandwidth used hasn't updated.

According to an automated e-mail I received, "Your images cannot be viewed until your bandwidth usage is reset at the beginning of the next month of your membership."

I guess the images won't display again until the beginning of August?

Sorry!

Gary you could always upload your images to our servers here rather than linking to them - it's under "Upload attachment" in the 'post a reply' section.

Will do, Harry.

I had linked to a third-party server since I posted the images on the RPF as well. I had been looking at the maximum number of images allowed (500) and thinking, "I've still got plenty of space!" Never once gave a thought to the other limit set by total bandwidth allowed (1000 mb). D'oh!

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. I'll put the images back up again using the AL server.

Done!

I couldn't get the last of the six photos to upload in Post #1; the system wanted to post the fifth shot again and again. I take it there's a limit to the number of photos that can be posted?

This is what I get when I try to post the last photo:

Anyway, the last shot is just a beauty shot, not a "step." The whole tutorial is available in Post #1.

Thanks again, everybody!

Very nice!

I've heard these knots referred to as "love knots" in English, although I haven't heard them called such in Japanese.

In any case, I'm delighted to see the knot put to such good use. Thanks for sharing the photos! :D

Kind of an odd question to necro-post but where can I find what I need to accomplish this feat?

Poked around on ebay and found one... sadly the picture was EXACTLY the one used in the tutorial but I got one with wings in the "up-curve" of flight, whatever, makes it a bit more me and less Hudson :P

I think I won't use it for USCM stuff but it'll get a proud place on my rearview mirror, maybe I'll consider tying it somewhere on my 'Nam gear. (sadly a silver eagle is a bit of a target).

But the tutorial is pretty easy to follow and its much easier than it looks, the adjusting to get it all even and tight was the hard part.
