Post subject:  Wardrobe: Correct Style USCM Jungle Boots

I'm looking around for Jungle Boots and absolutely no one has size 10 in stock... then I came across these on Amazon (UK) which seem pretty good.

I'm using your website Harry as reference as you have a wicked picture of Hudson's... but thought I'd find out from you guys if the OD colour is close or SA... it seems more OD Green tones in the Screen used ones.

And is the sole different? This 'chunky' style is apparently Panama sole.

Let me know your thoughts!

Martin

The Panama souls the one you want Martin.

It`s what I have alas the canvas is BLACK on mine :(
Size 13 (UK) Boots were the best I could find.

SU ones for most of the "grunts" is the OD canvas.

Thanks Jason,

Are the soles you see here the same as the sole on yours?? This is apparently the Panama sole but the picture on Harry's site of the Panama Jungle boot has lower and smaller grip on the sole... so not sure! :?

Do you think I should go for these?

Martin

Hey Martin,

If this is the sole Image

Then YES go for them.

Now as for the thickness on Harry`s,I dare say that`s down purey to wear. Chances are the boots would have been surplus just like most of the Army kit used on ALIENS.

I know my pair have this sole.

I always thought they were the older Vibram type soles.

I finally got jungle boots on eBay. But to go for the specific sole... while I appreciate screen accuracy... that's waaaaay too out there.

too bad that Altama (maker of the boots) had the correct
sole ones on sale closeout for awhile. I got them for a
great deal.

You may want to use "Sahara" in your search.

That is what they call the vibram sole.

Post subject:

If you google shopping search "altama sahara olive"

you'll still find some close-outs at great prices.

The sole does say vibram, not altama.

It isn't the exact pattern, but they are new, and have an EVA sole.

So, modern and comfy.

Thanks Matt, I'll have a search now and see what I can grab here in the UK. The boots I show in my original post are £20 ($42) but with the Panama sole so if I can't find any these will be a cheap alternative for a while.

Thanks everyone for the help too, If any of you UK boys are looking for some I'll post up my results. :)

Nick....sent you a PM buddy

Again sorry Martin. As for cheapness, well that depends on footsize at the end of the day ;)

Big feet mean BIGGER prices :(

Both sole pattern's were used in VN. So I really don't think taht would matter. IMHO

Yeah I think you're right... how many people are going to be staring at the tread on my boots anyway!! The only difference would be the tread I leave on a bug's head!

And after much searching the Sahara style boot is not readily available in the UK anyway, so shipping great big chunky boots overseas is going to double the cost... which is a bloody shame because I've just seen some Sahara style Jungle Boots for $20 on sale! Dammit :(

Am probably going to go for these Panama style ones from Amazon, at £20 it's not bad whatsoever, although if nick-a-tron can offer his one's at a good price I'll go for them!!

I spoke to a friend of mine who's a Marine Commando and to break them in he suggests lying in a really hot bath for 10 minutes with them ON and then to walk around the block a few times to really break them in (not nude of course!)... then leave them to dry naturally before applying the first Parade Waxing and waterproof the leather again...

...can anyone confirm this invasive technique and does anyone have any other equally ridiculous methods?!?! :D

The Hot water trick is a sure winner.

Another is just spend 1/2hr to an hr squeezing the foot part of the boots. That has always helped me too.
Though oveall I`ve always been lucky with boots even MoD issued ones...LOL

As these have canvas sides though it`s not that intensive to break them in compared to an ALL leather pair of boots.

I know my Panama have that steel plate in the sole, just incase the damn bugs try to spike me with their tails.Doubt it`ll do much protecting though from the acid.....LOL

I think you should just buy and wear whatever you feel comfortable in. No one here is going to pick you up on wearing the 'wrong' shoes. I'd just be happy to be able to find somewhere that sells Size 3 in the UK - as you said, shipping from the US is a killer.

Vicky, suppose you've already seen em, but there's a pair on ebay in a size 3, BUT sadly they are all black.

Yeah thank, I saw them. And they're almost as expensive as shipping a pair from the States. :(

Well thank you,All of you

With all the talks of boots,I`ve just spent the last hr putting a solid shine to my boots.

I know it`s NOT SU as they were USCM & no one shines footwar like us Brits :P

Still got nice SHINY BOOTS now :D

Vicky what's the biggest size you might go up to?
You know if you wore a couple of pairs of thick socks. :?

Just if I came across any in my searching of militaria/army surplus stores for cheap.

Nothing wrong with black ones Jason, they look cool with your black armour. 8)

I got my boots off E-Bay for $3.99, but the shipping was over $10.00. Still less then the $39.99 they are selling for at the surplus stores. I'm not too worried that the tread is not accurate. I would hope no one is going around checking the bottom of boots.
