The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: ARMOR: OD buckles & Buckle sizes.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, 2003 11:22 pm
I found a source for Side release buckles and Tri glides,
molded in Olive Drab plastic.

(Buckles for the armor... glides for the PR sling)

They are available in all the needed sizes.

The manufacturer has a minimum order that I'm currently checking on. I plan to order some regardless, but if anyone is interested in the extras that I will have just LMK.

Great find and you say they have the right sizes, yes?
Perhaps a group order is called for here.

You could mull over the logistics and see what happens.
Any other interested parties please chime in. :)

If not then a few of us will be getting some from you .

I for one would charge an outrageously exaggerated markup no matter what the wholesale price is... ...

I think a group order is definately...

wait for it....

...in order :) Isn't the English language wonderful? :P

A good idea might be to put together pricing for an "armor pack" of buckles, i.e. all the buckles of the correct widths that you'd need for a full set of armor. You might have them in 2 or more versions to, if the different sets out there have different widths on different parts. Just an idea :)

I'm guessing on average most armor sets would require 8 x 1" buckles and 4 x 1.5" (or 2") buckles.

1 pair of leg armor = 6 x 1" buckles
Torso armor = 2 x 1" buckles, and 4 x 1.5" (or 2") buckles

The 1.5" buckles are more accurate than the 2" buckles for the torso armor, but I've used the 2" buckles in the past and I like the beefier look. ;)

I believe the Ab Pad used black side release buckles.

Personally, I'd like to buy at least enough buckles for 3 complete sets.

That's kinda' what I'm thinking too, and I don't even have any immediate plans to get armor!

Well, aside for shin guards to wear with the SG rig, ala the Tech Manual.

From the reference pics I've seen of the cod piece
the two upper buckles look like they are side release buckles, painted OD.
The single lower buckle looks like a black cam buckle.

*The OD buckles are available in 1", 1.5", and 2"

The company is sending me samples so I can check out the color, up close.

TS826,

Did you get my mail regarding some of that 2" nylon webbing you were selling?

Actually, it's 10 x 1" buckles per suit. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.

Where do the extra two 1" buckles go. The ab pad? I just meant the armor :)

One is for the Ab Pad, and the other goes on the upper right area of the chest plate.

To me the chest buckle looks larger than the 1" Pauldron buckle. Is this a perspective thing or is the chest buckle actually another 1.5" buckle?

Doh! Totally forgot about the chest plate buckle!

TS826... you maybe right. It looks like a 1.5" buckle. Perhaps someone with one of Terry's could look into this? I do recall that although I used a 1" buckle there, there did appear to be adequate space for a 1.5" buckle.

It probably is a 1.5, but then you need a wider strap over the shoulder and that's just a pain. I use the 1", and it works out fine. A wider strap would probably get in the way more.

Chest armor:
4 1.5" buckles to hold the sides together (2 per side)
1 1.5:" buckle to attach over your right shoulder (the other side is permantely attached)

Shoulder braces: 2 1" buckles

Ab Pad: 3 1" buckles

Knee armor: 2 1" cam buckles (movie accurate) but you can use 2 1" buckles

Leg armor: 4 1" buckles

Belt: (that the grenamde straps attach too) You can use a 2" buckle or a 1.5" buckle here

Thats right from my armor.

Steve
