The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm told it should be flexible enough Dropshipbob. It certainly seems ok on the neck section although I was wary not to spray it too thick.

PMander - cool info regarding the black baloons - might have to give them a go

Cheers

Updated pics now the heads been sprayed with Krylon Triple Clean (flash photo). And I've started work on painting the chest section....

..and under natural light (which has given a more brown hue due to the exposure/colour balance) and I've given it a bit of photoshop film grain too to simulate a "Movie" look.

Merry Christmas!

As its all made of latex, is it all hollow, or solid latex? Just wondering how floppy bits are like the head?

Jez, the fantasy LRP guys in the UK use something called ISOFLEX to seal there latex coated swords. Its flexible and clear too and can be got from B&Q apparently. Bit late now I suppose but I hadnt been following this thread due to my recent computer problems.

But thats certainly looking fantastic.

I've ALMOST finished it and got a chance yesterday to wear it for the first time

btw Lewis pm me if you want any in on it, yes its a lycra suit with attachments and I painted the "blank" areas with liquid latex so is has a more "rubber" look but is still lightweight and flexible

My wife snapped these pics and we did a b/w stying in photoshop as I love the way it shows the shading.
Image

Note only one hand was painted which is why you cant see the other

I still got some finishing off to do, some final shading, paint the other hand!, more mouth condoms but otherwise I'm about there

Cheers

That's very impressive Jez - nice one!

I remember meeting you at a Memorabilia show at the NEC a while back and I recall you're quite tall and thin so you definitely have the right physique for an Alien! :)

Harry.

Harry - Hi, it was nice to have met you. You're right, my Bro say's I'm a "lanky streak of pi$$" so a good shape for an Alien

That looks INCREDIBLE! I love it. Those B/W pics are perfect but I'm dyin' to see the suit in color too. ;)

One question I have about the suit is the shoulders. I seem to recall that with the original Xeno in Alien, the shoulder pieces that stick up were more parallel to one another with the head in the center, whereas on yours, the shoulder pieces are more angled. Was this a design change that Stan Winston did to give the stunt men more mobility with the suits, or is it another factor? Curious.

I definitely agree with what others have said, that this is the best Aliens suit I have seen yet. I'm also curious to see how well you were able to blend in the latex pieces to the body suit. From the B/W pics I can't see any transitions. And how's the visibility?

I wish I had the height and body type to pull off wearing a suit like this.

Cheers chaps for the kind feedback

Alex, I'm not sure what you mean regarding the shoulders and am not sure what the differences are between the Giger and Winston versions - I get the impression (maybe wrongly) that Winston's body is a completely bespoke sculpt, unless they started with some castings off the original and amended. However the shoulders on my alien are quite floppy - i need to pack them with spong but its not a hard job.

I'll get some more pics taken but it really needs to be outside in daylight as flash totally ruins the look. In addition I'm wary of having shots in the garden or somewhere as it'll ruin the illusion (an image of an Alien next to some kids swings springs to mind  ), however given the UK NSC event is only 10 days away there should be loads of pics.

In actual fact the transitions between the applications and "bare" latex parts are quite noticible, however the key thing is that the "texture" of the complete costume is the same so you dont have that rubber, fabric split. From a yard away it looks cool and that was my intention.

To finish i've only some final detailing on a couple of sections, and i need to trim paint and detail the tail which ive not started yet. I also need to affix the tail to the harness - not a huge job but still one that needs doing.

In addition i REALLY want to animate the mouth so i can snap open and close the jaws. i'm going to do a mini fanfilm/trailer with it and ive got to have some mouth movement. It'll also be cool scaring people

Cheers

Jez
