The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Very nice Jez

I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on this project as it progresses.

Soon as I get my costume up and ready-im hoping more people will invest in getting Alien costumes!
We seem to see more marines than the BUGZ themselfs!
To me THEY are the stars of the films lol

We have Garrisons of stormtroopers, why not aliens?
Be pretty cool-as the alien franshise needs to be as big as starwars maybe?

Just an idea...

Looks great, Jez. That's a real frickin' Alien standing there!
Did you take the pic shortly after it was painted, or does the paint look that glossy when it's dry?

Wow, this seems to be coming along in quick fashion! Only a few weeks from receiving, to cleaning up, to painting? Wonderfull!

Brilliant work mate Image
Considering the somewhat uncertain delivery times of you-know-who and what you show in your pics - I think it's safe to say you made the right choice :)

Thanks for sharing

That's coming along really nicely, Jez! It's a shame they didn't cast the teeth in a clear resin. It would have been a nice extra touch if the teeth transitioned from clear to silver to black like they did with the film versions. The seperate pieces certainly look like they're blending nicely into the undersuit. Are you going to coat it in PermaWet after you're done with all the final painting?

Also... is this going to be showing up at DCon this year? :)

The entire head!?!! That might be pretty heavy and a bit of a strain on the neck and spine... non?

no it won't...
i've done a lot of resin casting...so i can make very thin layers with glass fiber,so this won't be heavy but really strong...
i have a really small appart, and i can put a resin mask everywhere... with a latex and foam one,you need to take care of it... because it may not keep its shape if something is put on it...
not sure you will understant because i'm not sure to use the good words... sorry, i'm french

Thanks for the response guys.

Batnemo - interesting idea, I look forward to seeing pics of your work. I've got one of Bruce H's heads which is great but not something I'd like to wear. The great thing about this head is you really should be able to bash it around without it taking much/any damage

Uscmcorps/Andrew - Ive been able to get some Krylon triple clear here in the UK (thanks again to "The Frosty" who has been of IMMENSE help advising me over the painting). I've tested it on a small section and it looks great - really wet looking and ok for Rubber etc.

So here's where I am now. Two or three shades of grey (bit of blue) and all done by sponge/drybrush/fingers. The Krylon's not been added yet - i'm wary of doing so as its the point of no return!
Image

Note sure if you can make it out on this pic but I've added an upper lip using a condom (unused!) painted with the black latex paint. IMO it really adds to the look.
Image
I'll be adding a couple more condoms to the L and R jaws for the mouth tendons - fun!

Cheers

Jez

 I should hope so!

The upper lip addition really adds to the overall effect! nicely done. Do you think the latex condom will last a long time?

Looking better and better, Jez! So are ya coming with this to DCon or what!?!! We need a Xeno to make us more identifiable ;) :D

your alien's color is a beauty... i love it, and it's the same result i would like too...
that was my first idea, and now that i see yours, that confirm what i want...
for the head, i'm working on it... and think i will get the same kit as you for the suit... but will add a lot on the body, cause i don't want to let it as a suit, but like a more organic body...
i will add pics really soon on a new site...

batnemo, I can understand you quite well, I'm sure the others can too. So you plan on doing a fiberglass shell reinforced with resin? I would think that wouldn't be to heavy. I might suggest instead of using resin to reinforce the fiberglass that you use expanding polyurethane foam. I've seen several models use this, as well as masks.

Jen, this Krylon triple thick paint you speak of, is it from the Fusion line?

I've also recently found acrylic sealer in both a flat and gloss variety. Might that help seal it as well? If it's acrylic based, I'd think that if you used it to seal your work, but then later decided you wanted changes, it would be easy to add paint over it and reseal it. Thoughts?

Thanks again for the feedback guys.

Alex - love to come but doubt i'll be your side of the pond then. Whats the date? I hope the "johnnies" will last over time although tbh i'm not sure

dropshibob - i'm surprised i was able to get the Krylon here. Its called "Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze 0501" and it comes in a 6 uz oz spray can

Cheers

Hey Jez!

The Jonnies should last alil bit! I suggest going over the condoms with PVA glue! They should harden and protect them from erroding fast?!

Keep up the good work!

P.s sorry I never replied back to your PM Been busy-BUT shall do so soon matey!

cool costume looking good..

just wanted to add about the condon thing for ya..carefull what if you paint not to use any clears, oils or arcylics on the tendants for the jaws..it will disolve in a few weeks...

i know how it feels to do all that work and bam another thing sets ya back.

for some parts of this process I used black ballons..also easer to work with.

keep up posted!

Pete

Here is a side on veiw of the jaw detail on my alien!
I used PVA glue and rubber to get the effect on the sides!
It turned out pretty good I thought!
I did it about 4years ago and it still in good shape!

Will this stuff be flexible enough?

That's why I suggested the acrylic sealer, thought it might have some flexibility to it.
