The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Sweet Mother of God that is wicked!

The pics knock it out of the park and I have to agree with you, that suit should never be seen next to a swing set.
Sent you an email Jez with a couple questions.

Good work man!

Well for the slimed up body look you could always try using some perma-wet, the pred builders use it to give their suits that "oh-so-slimy" look. Its that or get someone to hose your down with KY every tiem you put it on...

Actually, KY mixed with some water could make a good alien drool mixture...

Broskopf, I think you can fix the tear by adding liquid latex to it. You might have to add tape to the back to hold the two edges together, and at the same time, apply liquid latex to the area. You will probably have to add several layers, and you may need to add something to strengthen the bond, like tissue paper. Add some latex and while it's wet, add on a bit of tissue paper. When this dries, add another layer of latex and tissue. Do this four or five times, and it should be strong enough for you to wear.

Well, after a long wait I finally received the parts for mý bug suit. Heads up to Steve for providing a man with what he needs, no matter what happens.

I do have a problem though, so I'm calling out to anyone who has experience with latex. The chest part had a fairly large tear in one of the shoulders. What would be a good method to repair that?
I can't provide pics now. I'll try to take one showing the tear and post it tomorrow.

sorry but can you explain more cause my english is not enough,my translation is not correct i think...if there is too much latex on a point, you can use a dremel to sand it,if it's a hole, some liquid latex will be enough, depends on what is the problem...hope to help you, with pictures it will be easyer...

How large is the tear? You could take some fabric, lay it on the underside across the tear and staple it in place several times on each side. Then apply liquid latex to further help with the adhesion. This way the stress is placed on the fabric and not on the latex itself. Like this:

Or instead of staples, you could rivet the fabric in place (don't forget to place a washer on either side). This is a good solution especially if the latex in that area is thick as you can dremel away a small pit in the latex where the rivet and washer would go, and then fill in the pit with liquid latex. You would not be able to tell there's a rivet in there. Like this:

If your chest piece is a skin like mine, then I think you should glue some fabric to the underneath of the tear then paint with liquid latex.

Super-glue works, but makes it quite stiff if you cover a large area. Contact Adhesive stays rubbery and is extremely strong provided that you let it dry completely BEFORE sticking the surfaces together.

I trust you have seen Jez's Page and my page? Jez gives a nice orderly account of how to put it together, my page just moans about all the problems I've had!

This is the tear. In fact, it's more like two tears close together.

Info received so far already is tremendously appreciated.

to my mind, think first you can use cyanoacrylate ( super glue ) to glue all the parts ( not too much and prefer not liquid one)let dry
then under the chest, put 2 layer of liquid latex ( let dry between each layer), then as someone as said, a new layer and before it dry add one layer of fabrics, then one layer of latex again, let dry... do it an other time
that will be far enough...
but if other have better idea...

I'm in the process of cleaning up every part. From the answers on this forum, I have two questions.

Basically, it's because some products are advised, which I can't identify due to the language problem.

What's a "terry cloth rag"? What's that kind of rag used for?
Same for "De-limonene". What the proper use of that product and what kind of shops would sell it?

"Terry cloth" is the name for a fabric with absorbent bristles/fibres, like a bath towel.

De-limonene is a lemon scented degreaser fluid that is availiable in the US. I couldn't find it in the UK, so you probably don't have it in Belgium either.

I used a dremel tool to remove the excess latex. It is tricky at first but easy when you get the hang of it.

Hi Jez,

a question if I may.

How did you fix the neck to your head (I.E) what glue as I'm toying with the wat Gareth did it (using fabric inside) but still not sure what to do.

Whenn glueing the neclk into place, where's the best point to start at, I.e the back and work round or the front and do each side meeting at the rear point ?

Also did you hollow out the inside of the head at all to make it bigger ?

Sorry for all the questions ! :o

Andy
