The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi Andy.
It's Andrew here, you wore my Alien War suit at the NSC event.
Hopefully I can help you a bit.

When glueing the neclk into place, where's the best point to start at, I.e the back and work round or the front and do each side meeting at the rear point ?

Also did you hollow out the inside of the head at all to make it bigger ?

First, check out Gareths (Pug50) site for info on how to connect the neck:

xeno666.googlepages.com/a...ction_head

I made a bit of a hash of it because I rushed it for the NSC event, and the neck is twisted in the photos of Jo in that suit. I have to take it off and re-attach it sometime.

YES I did have to hollow out the head. And it's still too tight. But I've scraped away as much as possible, which wasn't much but it did make a difference. I was hoping to get a helmet in there, but, no chance – these heads are some generations on from the originals and get smaller with each recast.

I would recommend you talk to Gareth or Jez who have spent more time on fabricating the suits and are now what I would call 'experts in the field'. Hopefully I'll get time soon to catch up to that standard as I'm hoping to get my suit finished in time to go to Facts in Belgium – as an Alien!

Edit: I tried on Gareths Bug head last week at the London Aliens screening, and I must say the field of vision was much better than you'd expect. If you are planning on wearing your suit at shingigs and conventions, then I think Gareths method is a winner.

Post some progress pix if you get a chance.
Good luck, chap.
Andrew

Cheers Andrew,

the wires have been doing a bit of buzzing between Gareths, Jez's and my computas.

The upshot was that I think Gareth's method is how I will go.
Hollowed out the head hole some more by cutting "flaps" in the rubber and pulling them back, removing some foam and then glueing the "flap" back with copydex. Edges were then sealed with liquid latex. Going to look for some material tomorrow to glue the neck (rubber) piece too.

Also giving some thought to a chin strap to hold the head a little more securely too.

Feet wise I'm going to cut the feet in half and glue them onto trainers / pumps as my UK size 11's wont fit into the feet "as is".

MODS:

I would like to nominate this thread to be moved into the Archive. I would be gutted if it ended up on the dreaded "Page 21"!

Cheers,

Gareth
