Hey guys. So after many months of searching i finally got a lucky break and found all of the main parts to build a colonial marine shoulder lamp. A reflecta 3002 lamp, technisub vega torch and not one but two superswitch alarms!

The shoulder lamp is still a work in progress but after spending a good amount of time spent on it over the weekend i have got it to a stage where im very happy with the results. So I thought I'd share the what i have done so far.

The first part i made was the bracket that attaches to the armour which i made at work out of 3mm steel. I drilled an countersunk two bolt holes and attached the bracket to the alarm box. I also added an allen key bolt for the bracket on the side.

I then went to work on the reflecta lamp and stripped it down to juat the necessary parts needed. I made the front plate out of tin, flanged the sides and drilled the four holes, one in each corner.

The technisub torch was next to get stripped to bits. The plastic of the body is around 10mm thick so it was alot harder work to cut the handle off with a hacksaw than I first thought.

I had to order the lamp arm from chef as im pretty sure its one of those parts that still hasn't been identified yet, and even though i tried i had no luck searching for it!

When the arm arrived i thought it seemed a little short so i added and glued in place a disk of plastic to make the lamp head sit a bit taller. I still have to fill and smooth that part of the arm.

I have now attached the handle and the lamp and lamp arm in place. For the handle one countersunk bolt is hid discretely under the sliding switch and the other side is held in place by chefs lamp arm bolted through. This is where i am at the moment.

That's awesome! I am trying to do a similar build. Still need a Vega handle (I would even settle for a black resin cast until I find one). Also currently working on a 3D model of the lamp arm parts. Would like to cast them up in aluminum once I get a decent print.

Great looking build! Nice that you were able to find original parts. I gave up on that dream years ago. :)

Thanks I'm so glad i found the parts. I searched for a year i would say and the hardest part to find was the technisub torch!

I should hopefully have the lamp wired up tomorrow so will update when done.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Amazing! This is on my list this year... but will probably get pushed. I got hung up on the arm between the lamp and the superswitch. Can't wait to see it all lit up!

Thanks for the info! I didn't know there was one. Do you have any pics of the part you mean. I can't really find any really good screen used props to look at.

Sure! Here's a close up of a screen used lamp head. A seventh grill from a reflecta stack was used to secure the cone in place.

I never really thought about this prop so in-depth before, but these are great images. Forgive the potentially silly question. Where did the 7th grill come from? The actual 'found item' only had the 6 'small ones' and the large ones look too large to have been used.

In that image it looks to have more advanced rust than the basic 6 and the corners look sharper. This indicates it was from another source and not one of the original powder coated pieces? Possibly cut to order for this purpose? Or do I just have an over-active imagination?

Also the very most outer stack (the 8th with the ridges/borders) is not found on a real Reflecta 3002, correct? That may have been custom fabbed as well?

Thanks Nick. Ive never seen these pics before. Ill have to back track a little it would seem.
It looks to me as the main front plate and the 7th plate are added extras probably made from mild steel. I will fab something up at work next week and be back with some pics shortly.

Ok so it turns out i didnt need to go to work and fabricate anything after all. Ive found the 7th fin! :D . The part wasn't hard to spot once i began to look at all the left over parts from the reflecta lamp.

Can you spot it? . So i whipped out my handy angle grinder and began hacking!

Taaa daaa! The elusive 7th fin

That got me thinking then about the pictures of the screen used lamp nick supplied and what looks like ribbed supports in each corner. Im pretty sure ive found those parts too. Sandwiched inbetween the fins on the leftover bigger lamp head are little spacers slid over smaller copper or brass pipe.

Four stacked on top of each other with a cut down bit of copper pipe looks about right. Much better than the pipe i was using before anyhow.
