The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

DSB hit the nail on the head. :)

There are two cerclips at the pointy end. (Probably buried in a load of grease.) You’ll need to remove these before you can pullout the chuck. I was lucky and managed to get a pair of long nosed pliers that fitted.

I believe I rember something about cer-clip pliers used to remove the chuck...if the chuck is what you are asking about. But I have no idea what cer-clip pliers are or where to get them. But I would like to know as this is one of my upcoming projects. :)

It's been hell trying to get a hold of one in/from sweden.

Have a mental image of the board members (that have a kango) standing in a Bishop-like pose disecting the facehugger...

Good luck with that BTW.

Actually, mine is sitting in my garage in it's storage case...buried under a mountain of junk. And after all the cash I spent on it too!

Not that I don't want it...things just get lost around here easily. I'll probably be looking for another in a few months. :(

You can see what they look like in this image - and yes, you should be able to finish stripping it out once it's removed.

(The correct spelling is 'circlip' by the way).

Ok, what are cerclips? Does removing them allow me to remove the chuck and the rest of the guts?

Oh those things. Why in R/C racing we used to call those C-clips that held clutch bells and transmission gears in; I guess now C-clips is short for Circlips, but I had thought they stood for the shape "C".

Andy,

Just thought you ought to know that you've misspelled the link in your sig-line; you've left out the i in 'wing'. (Just doing my little bit for charity there!)

I think I'm going to start up a dictionary for tools by the way, the correct spellings are 'bradawl', and 'pliars'!

...and it seems 'needlenose' is actually either one word, or hyphenated - and before anyone starts up, there's no K in 'screwdriver'! ;)

Harry.

I remember inventing a few new swear words when I was trying to remove that section from the Kango, and I've been scarred for life by the smell of that gunk!!

If I remember correctly once the circlips are out that section literally falls out.

It helps if you have the correct tools but I did it with a pair of needlenose plyers and a braddle (sp?), it works okay you just have to be careful not to slip!! :)

Good luck with yours BF.

Thanks for the information guys.
Harry, thanks for posting what these clips look like. I went to my local hardware store to see some in person and they are called snap/housing clips.

I have looked and looked and can not see or find anything that even look like the clips.

I am a fan of the aliens trilogy but where in the heck does a drill innards come into play with the alien movies? Anybody have a screen cap or something to prove my stupidity on movie props. :P

Raptor Arts,
It is not the innards that are used it is the drill itself. The drill is the main body for the motion tracker. But you have to gut it and clean it first.

Oh and I'm about to give up. I have cleaned out as much greas as I can and I still dont see any of these clips. Anyone willing to help me out and finish the gutting for me?

oh dear, I remember that I had the same trouble to get the stuff out of the Kango.

Tell you what : I was ready to smash the Kango against the wall and ask someone other to take a close look.......took 5 minutes and it was out........

So don`t hang up, ask some friends, your neighbor or someone to help you....

ummmm in my case "someone" was my wife !!

just do it !

You need to look down the end with the metal shaft coming out, the part where the chuck used to be fitted on. Clear out all the grease you can see between the shaft and the surrounding plastic case. The two clips are fitted around the shaft, they hold the shaft part into the metal gear box part.

Looking down the shaft you should be able to see the two metal ‘ears’ of the clip. You need to squeeze the two ears together with the correct tool and the clip will pull out towards you.

I would post a picture but I’m at work at the moment. If no one else obliges by the time I get home I’ll post a pic.

Edit: Slight technical difficulties posting a picture can anyone else kindly oblige ?
