The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Wardrobe: Alien³ Parkas (part I)
PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2003 4:24 pm
Has anyone done any digging around, to see what exactly the fish-tail parkas worn in Alien 3 are?

Because I'm about to, and if anyone's beaten me to it it'd be nice to know :)

This was discussed some time ago on the old ALIENS board, the particular make and brand was given...but I can't remember it. However, alienscollection owner Willie Goldman knows. Perhaps he will stop by for a moment and shed light on this. :)

I think I might be onto a loser here...
Does anyone else find this guy's command of the English language somewhat awe-inspiring?
I asked:

Hope you guys have some cold cold weather. These parkas will keep you toasty. I'd get one...but I'm not sure even Missouri winters are cold enough for these.

By the by, I have been told there are knock-offs of this coat on eBay. But I have no clue what they would be listed under. Same thing?

Wait a minute ... if you guys are talking about THE FISHTAIL parkas as those used in the U.S. armed forces -- why these are bountiful in surplus. Kurt Russel in 'The Thing', right ? Same thing, right ??

Well Rev, I don't have ready images, but I have some of those jackets (back home) when I won a lot from the U.S. government's DRMO (surplus sales). They are called fishtail jackets due to the fact the furry rim hood is zippered and can split open when you hang the hood off your back, resembling a fish's tail. They are of nylon shell in light green color -- the same as MA-1's (pilot's jacket). If my hunch is right -- you should hunt for these off eBay from a surplus seller rather than ordering from Alpha. :)

Are they the same type?
Being geeky here, and after the exact jacket. And the civilian version seems to go for £100+!

I have the thing on dvd. I'll get some screencaps.
& Neo, the A3 hood you found is a similar costume piece, but it is simply a waterproof covering for the top half of the body + hood, not a full jacket.
