The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Also, this coming weekend, we are going to try to match the patterns on the MAA 2PAT, 3PAT, Horpat and Spatcave camos

This should help. I did not label as they are obvious. I thought seeing all three together in the same light would help.

I agree with Magnus.
Horpat looks like new BDU's right off the shelf. The other's like been around the galaxy a few times (very weathered) even a bit sun bleached.

Hello all. Again this is not to say which to buy just to provide info. I took these pics outside with no flash. I do have all the fabric at my house so I can do requests. Sorry since my computer took a crap I lost my PowerPoint so cannot circle or place arrows.

Here are my 3PATS with Spat's on top of it to show how the pattern lines up and Aaron's next to it showing the same section of pattern. The fabric was not ironed so forgive the wrinkles. The pattern scale is slightly smaller on Aaron's so it would not line up as well so I put it next to the other 2. The shapes of the camo is slightly different on all 3.
Image

Here is Spat's on top of Aaron's. I am doing the same as I did with my 3PATS. You can see the scale is different.
Image

Again I just want to stress this is not to say which is better just to show the differences. All 3 will be at DragonCon.

Thanks!

Greg

No nitpicking. People asked so just showing. I know I have never said which one. I only have Aaron's and MAA's. Had access to Spat's material so just posting pics. Your choice.

Thanks!

Greg

If you think this is nitpicking, take a look at the Service C thread ;)

Magus, people have wanted this thread for a while.

The goal here is to compare the BDUs out there, what each of them offer.

Using that information, people decide for themselves.

Some people want more info, others are giving it to them.

You may consider it nitpicking, but others want to know these details.

If you don't like it, don't read the thread ;)

Much kudos to those who have taken the time to submit BDU comparisons for the membership to look at (Past and present).

That being said;

For those of us that are in or will be in the market for a set of BDU's the only BDU's that are relevant are those from Spat and Aaron (Chefs may or may not happen). MAA's (good or bad are HISTORY). Fine for comparison only.

Everyone has their own opinion on what they are looking for in a BDU (Form, Fit And Function). Spat and Aaron have presented to us there interpretation of what they wanted in a BDU and for present/future buyers comparison shopping is a GREAT thing. Yes they have their differences (That what makes the world go round). So details like mat'l, construction and color/pattern are very important. [Side note: Aaron's latest offering are not pre-shrunk. That might make a difference when ordering a set (size) from him].

I currently have an order in with Aaron. As for me I like a new off the shelf look/feel (weathering will come in time). Not really keen on the mat'l. I would have preferred a mat'l similar to those currently used by our military. But one can't have everything.

I applaud the MAAs, Spats, Aarons and maybe soon to be Chefs of the world that are willing/courage to produce costumes for fans and also open themselves up to criticism (Good & Bad) for there effort.

If you are looking for the PERFECT costume, make it yourself. Otherwise deal with what's on the market.

Well said Earl.

End of the day, people can buy whatever they want, I'm not going to tell people to wear because I am not their mother :)

My $0.02 is simple. If I was in the market for BDUs (my MAA 2patts are still going strong despite 7 years of hard wear) and if I had to choose between the two currently available vendors, I would go with Spat's because his are closer to what you see on screen IMHO.

Just wanted to say that having the ABILITY to choose which USCM pattern you want is a rarity, considering
how rare its been having access to ANY USCM BDUs for sale at all.

Beats using Safariflague and redying it to work!

My 2003 custom made BDUs... out of a flannel material I found that I "thought" looked close.
