Oh yeah..been there, done that:) the best thing to do is to use 1.5 packages of RIT dye. I used Kelly Green I believe. After you wash them, put them back in for a rinse with just a bit of detergent..not much though. Dont dry them all the way after they are done...this will fade the coloring out. Just do it about half dry, and then hang them to dry the rest of the way. Next, get some chlorine...(yes, the pool stuff) It can be powder and you can just mix in the water. Now, heres the long boring part....brush the "white" parts of the BDUs with the chlorine (just use a small paint brush, but be careful not to get any on the brown parts..this will fade the color out FAST!!!!!) Also, make sure you have an old towel or something behind the part you are brushing...the chlorine will go through multiple layers.. After youve whitened up the white parts, take some very light grey RIT and spray (use hair spray bottle or equivalent) on the white parts..this will give you the "bone" coloring. When I ordered my 2PATS and faded them out...I was amazed at how my 1PATS that I had done this way look JUST like the 2PATS after I finished fading them. To be honest, I couldnt tell a difference in the 2 of them in a side by side comparison. Derek Pvt. Yeah... we did discuss that earlier! Here are some of my results: Dying them to look like PAT2's is tricky... the problem is that the PAT2 has white areas as well as areas with a more green tone... dying PAT1's will give all fields a greener look (or whatever color you choose)... this means you have to bleach every single field that's supposed to be white manually by hand... I've done this to a few of the BDUs (see pics) and the result is ok, even though the borders of each field tend to be somewhat floating... also.. it's a very boring job ![]() ![]() ![]() I used dye (to a VERY limited extent of course, small quantities of this can make a big difference) and bleach... Good luck with your project and post pics of the result ![]() |

You know what I'd love to do? Commission a huge role of fabric to be printed in the correct colours outright so no more need for dying, fading or fiddling. |

But hey, we're talking about dying PAT1's now... PAT2's are the correct colours... con't you think? |

I don't know. I've not seen them, but I have heard lots of poeple talking about fading out their PAT2's. Might be convenient if the colours were printed in lighter tints so that no additional "seasoning" was necessary. |

yeah that's right.. I also heard of people wanting to fade their PAt2's.. first of all I don't think that's necessary (a liiittle maybe) and second if you wanna do it, just leave them outside for a few days in the sun or in the snow or whatever and they're gonna be perfect... Don't think that weathered effect can be accomplished by lightening the colors though.... it's gonna be the same then ![]() ![]() |

The only reason we fade the 2PATs is to make them look "used"....cant have any crispy clean Colonial Marines:) Derek Pvt. D.Smith A04/TQ1.0.62147E1 Name: Chris "FNG" Chulamanis Status: Missing in Action Mission: Bring him back alive....no matter the cost. |
