The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I now have all the 'found Items' to create a screen accurate shoulder lamp.

Fully intact 3001 Reflecta
The original lamp handle
A "new in the box" Superswitch alarm

The trouble is that all of these items have to be
hacked apart and basically destroyed to create the lamp.

My question is...
If given the oportunity, would you use actual parts to make the lamp, or make copies and use those instead?

The alarm box is giving me the most trouble.
Not only does it (as well as the packaging) look brand new
It came with all of the original paperwork and the entire thing is packed in an original "Superswitch Appliance" labeled shipping box.

Ouch - tough call.

For me it all depends on how accurate you want to be and how much money you paid.
If you feel confident enough to hack them to pieces and make the lamp - awesome.
But if your not and the thought of making a mistake and losing the screen used parts fills you with dread - again, ouch!!

I say go for it. You got the parts for a reason and they don't look too pretty sat in their boxes do they ;)
I'm sure everyone here will lend a hand if you need it!

I'd say both, take casts of all parts(if you aint got the skill find someone who does),might even be able to claw back some of your outlay.

I'd say frame that frickin alarm box cuz it's so rare (at least to me it seems to be) that I'd rather have that than a shoulder lamp!!

(Where did you find it?)

Is there any chance of seeing a photo of the parts.

Well, we run into the same problem over on the RPF when it comes to things like MPPs or Kalimar six sixtys.

Here's what you have to ask yourself, did you buy the parts to make an accurate shoulder lamp or to have a collection of rare found items?

Usually what I do is this, I make a replica of the piece in question and then display the found parts with a breakdown diagram of the prop to show how the parts went together. For instance, with my Obi Wan ANH saber. I have a real grenade and a real exactra calculator. Since I didn't want to destroy either, I plan on displaying them in a shadow box with a large picture of the obi saber. Then next to each individual part, I have a short write up of the piece (real world application and the history and evolution of it's discovery (what people thought it may have been)).

Then I have my replica saber made from fan made machined parts AND I can display my rare originals.

The reflecta parts seem to turn up most often. The alarm box is a pretty rare deal. I'd personally save the alarm box, and use the lamp parts on a casting of the lamp box.

But that's just me. :)

I'd like to see the elusive alarm box in it's natural state! :)
Any chance of a photo or two?

Personally I'm going to make a sturdy Shoulder Lamp.

This baby is in transit from France.

It may have some hack pouch parts inside.

This one has a microwave sensor on the top.

Any chance of some measurements of the alarm box, please?
I wanna see if I can cobble something together from plastic "project boxes" from my work...

noble that's SUCH A BEAUTY!!! I think I'm gonna start collecting Superswitches instead of this USCM shit
Wonder how many I'd find in a year??? Probably zero :(

Would you mind sharing what you paid for it, in which country you found it (or did you say France already?) and what words you used for searching on eBay?

Exactly HOW happy were you when you found it???
