The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Vasquez's Gun S&W M39... Ready when you are!
PostPosted: Fri Oct 20, 2006 8:29 pm
I have the gun in hand (not an airsoft) as well as the correct grips.
It will be a solid cast in black resin, no moving parts, with separate grips molded in white.

I'd like to gauge interest so that I know how much resin I need to order.

So if $35 shipped in the US sounds good to you (overseas extra) ,then let me know.

Reply here if you like, but definitely send me a note to the email listed in my profile.

Also if anyone has any decent screen grabs of the gun in question in action in the movie that would be nice for people to download and print for a framed companion piece... or for autographs when and if we run into Ms Goldstein any time soon.

Thanks!

Matt

Count me interested. Can never have too many USCM weapons (especially from Matsucorp).

Interest duly noted...

UK shipping usually can run anywhere from $12 to $25 depending on the service used.

Here is the gun in question.

Image

This is the master, I have yet to mold it..I need to drum up a little more interest before I get it going.

Note that the grips will be molded separately and I'll be offering casts of the factory grips for those wanting to switch things up...any aftermarket grip made for this gun will fit as well.

To put the gun in another light beyond the Vasquez connection, here are some other points showing that the M39 is a historically significant handgun in it's own right.
It was S&W's first DA 9mm and the first of it's kind to be produced in the US.
Development began in 1949, with full production starting in 1955 and ending in 1980.

ALL other Smith & Wesson DA autos can be traced back to this gun.

Also which may be of interest to Vietnam era collectors, a number of M39's were modified, often with slide locking bolts. (rendering them "bolt action") and threaded barrels for silencers...for use in clandestine operations. I am however not at liberty to speak to the extent of these operations or the exact manner in which silenced handguns were employed by special operations groups. :D

I'd be interested in knowing what other movie connections the gun may have. A friend told me it was used by Serpico but it's been ages since I've seen that film.

I've always thought S&W auto's were a POS that's why I don't have a working M39 in my gun safe. Saying that, some day I'll make a smartgun and I suppose I'll need a backup piece therefore I must jump on the bandwagon & say, "Count Airborne Mike in".

No, it was blued with white grips.

Mike, I don't know what experience you've had to come to the POS conclusion, but I've owned a smith 908 for many years now and have never had a single misfire or loading malfunction. The thing is made to shoot.

I do plan to purchase a smith 45 cal. in the future.

I'd have to say that the smith autos are an awefully long way from POS.

That is off topic, though, I know :)

Matt, count me in on the run!

Ok well it looks like a satisfactory amount of interest. I'll get the gun prepped for molding.

I don't need payment from everyone up front but if a handful of people send me some pre payments that'll help me get started and get the resin ordered.

Oh and as a P.S. After this I might just take on another "easy" pistol casting project so be thinking about a plain, un-modified pistol you might be interested in seeing as a solid cast, value priced replica. Keeping in mind it's not one readily available in airsoft.

Thanks!

BTW My desktop went bye bye, I feel as though a part of me is missing...:(

I'm on borrowed time on someone elses laptop..I hate the bloody things...

This situation only adds to my personal drama as of late, so please bear with me in all that I am working on...I will make good...

I'm going to try and push this M39 project through in order to generate the cash for a new computer...right now all I have time for is casting, if anyone has a talent for build ups don't hesitate to chime in and offer your services, I don't mind at all.

I'll only be able to respond to people once a day in the mornings for the time being.

thanks.

Get out your wallets, I'm almost ready...;)
I'll have pix sometime tomorrow.

If anyone wants to send me money now I certainly won't complain.

Also be thinking if you want an extra set of the wood grain grips, I'll sell those for an extra $10

I just checked, real ones are crazy expensive, I'd like to find a set of Hogues or Pachmayrs to mold but no luck yet.

I'm thinking about doing an anime conversion with it like the Seburo. Maybe as an add on kit...

Dig it...

Number one gun out of the molds.

Image

Image

No sanding or painting at all on this one, just trimmed the pour sprues off and shaved some flash off that's it.

It's pressure cast in black resin, I use a lightweight filler that gives the gun a greyish cast when compared to pure black.
The grips are pressure cast in an ivory color resin, not pure white.

I'm happy with the way it turned out. I'll post more pix later with different configurations.

Contact me for paypal instructions, my paypal ID is not my listed email.

Thanks guys!

Heres a quick bash I did with the silencer and faux wood grips.
No paint just raw resin, it'll look the business once I paint it and rough it up a bit.

SOG style....Shhhhhhh Image

Image

Image

To recap the gun is $35 shipped in the US, it comes with one set of grips and $10 extra for an extra pair of grips.

The silencer option is $40 extra, kinda pricy I know but it comes at no small effort on my part. The fake silencer is all steel, and is threaded to 1/2-28. It also comes with a barrel stub with the corresponding threads and grooves in the lower portion so your epoxy of choice will bond the barrel in tightly.
You'll have to drill out the barrel to fit the new one in.

The finished deal looks superb!
Very smooth surface finish!

What type of resin and filler are you using?
The surface looks so good it could almost be a formaldehyde polymer!

Very nice!!!

~edit~ That's a compliment by the way. :)
Albeit in a somewhat disguised, engineering babble kind of way.

Thanks! I use Vagabond formula 3521S resin, it's a bit stronger, kicks faster and is already black. For filler I use Fillite, it's inert, very light, sands well and has no discernable "grain" in cross section when sanded...also in most applications it makes the parts stronger...(something to do with the molecules or something)..:P

SOG gun, redux...

Same as above only painted and weathered with "field expedient" bicycle inner tube grip.

Well, as expected the wizard of resin casting comes through again. Damn good work. I expect a check in a few days, so I'll be emailing you then.

That wrapped grip version is pretty snazzy. Having fun with this one? ;)

Spamming my own thread for an important announcement!

We are experiencing Ice storms and multiple power outages.

We lost all power yesterday for 24 hrs...it is back on now but it is blinking out regularly. I'm trying to attend to things on the computer between outages...this is my third attempt.

Falling trees are an EXTREME danger...since we live in the woods we are evacuating for what is predicted to be another major storm tonight.

My phone still works so those who need to may call me.

It goes without saying that I am unable to attend to anyone's order at this time I have to move my family and some belongings somewhere safe until the danger passes.

I'll be on as long as I can until the power goes out for good...and it will!

Thanks.

Matt
