Hey folks, Has anyone been able to identify a model/part number for the Neutrik curly-cord on the Head-Mounted Sight? Or, failing that, anyone have any suggestions for a good substitute? My Google and feeBay searches for it are batting a zero at present. This is officially the last part I need for a 100% screen-accurate smartgunner headset, so any assistance is appreciated!!

I've got a real Neutrix plug on mine, the only info on it that could be an item number is this... 250 VAC/5A Q2923 Harry or Pulseriflefan may be able to give you more info, Harry is an audio engineer and PRF has had the real thing in his hands at various times and I think he *might* have a resin version. Other than that, I have a few plugs that are close. I bought them back when I was first working on my headset, but before the real thing was identified. The curly cable, I believe that wasn't originally part of the plug. You could try Radioshack for a replacement, but my local RS has pretty well rid itself of any of the DIY stuff. Maybe you could order it through their on-line store. They seem to still offer the DIY stuff there.

I believe that the curly cord (not the connector) was determined to likely be an Olympus accessory cable. The "Olympus TTL autocord" was shown as a very likely candidate. |

If the curly cord wasn't originally part of the cable, that would explain why I've been having so much trouble finding the right one. The end that connects to the eyepiece is a 90-degree male phono plug, right? Could I trouble you to measure the length of the cord, in case I need to make one myself? I'm pretty handy with wiring and electronics in general, so if I end up having to make one from scratch it shouldn't be too much of a problem. |

I don't have them to hand at the moment but the large connector is an old style Neutrik mains connector - I'm pretty sure these are illegal now - at least in Europe so they may be hard to find, being superseded I think by the IEC 13 & 14 connectors. The smaller (silver) connector is a Lemo radio-microphone connector which were used on the radio transmitters on the SG headset and helmet mics to record audio on set. I'm afraid that's all I can tell you about them at the moment until I can get to them. Hope that helps, Harry |

the Neutrik plug is called "NCLNEFC" which I think should mean : Neutrik Connector Live Neutral Earth Female Connector These were available with black or silver metal casings. The tip was red to indicate that the connector is a power plug and not a regular XLR audio plug. Harry is right - these are forbidden to use nowadays. Sometimes you can catch some normal audio XLR plugs with black casing and black tip on eBay. Some years ago Chris made me a couple of tips in red resin which can be replaced with some work against the black ones (red paint doesn't stay very long). The Swiss company Lemo is still alive and you can order a wide range of these plugs today - but beware these are very expensive like a Swiss watch. Note that the Lemo plug on the image has the correct casing but not sure about the pins. The Olympus coiled cord cable looks close but not dead on. I checked all cables but didn't find a proper one yet. Anyone identified the "T-shaped" connector under the Megatron yet ?

The phono plug question, I have no answer to. I'd certainly like to know though!
And the length of my curly cable, I'm not sure the length I'd supply would make it the right one, since it was supplied seperately and I don't know who made it. Plus how would you measure a curly cable? The more you pull on it, the longer it gets. Unless you mean static/relaxed. Ugh, this post is filled with all sorts of innuendo.

19" from end to end, with about 1.5" of straight cable on each end. And if push came to shove, you could use an telephone handset cable. Those have a flatish side on two sides, where as the cable used on the SG headset was completely round. But if you can't find a perfectly round cable... |

My screen-used Sunshine comm-tags have the same Lemo connector. These were also used for practical onset sound recording.
