Might be just a visual effect of the alloy composition - but the leaf spring just above the trigger of the Thompson looks as if it were painted BB too. |

The second one down is the same pic as this which is how it was printed on the back cover of a SciFi and Fantasy models issue. 
Willie were those scanned from an original negative. |
