The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

PostPosted: Sat Jan 10, 2004 11:38 pm
I now have the following for my SG headset

Beyerdynamic heaset
Beterdynamic Mic M 560
Olympus T28 (darn expensive)
Megatron G1 cannon
Vivitar Flash thingy
Power lead
Camera
Eyepiece (self made)

Wanted
Neutrix plugs

What I really need help with is a decent side and back view of the camera. There are some things that are just back of where the T28 joins the camera, darned if I can see shape, size etc.
Can anyone help with a good view of this area.

Thanks
Iain:lol:

Iain,

I can take a couple of snaps of my Drake eyepiece for you if you like, but I can't do it now as I'm pretty busy for a couple of weeks.

Remind me soon though and I'll see what I can do.

Harry.

Collecting the parts foe one myself as well. Have the Beyerdynamic headset, the megatron parts, the plugs. Still need the rest. Have been looking at a lot (and i mean LOT!) of pics from old (military) phones, because i have a feeling that the eyepiece is a phone, sofar no luck.

some q's:
-What vivitar piece are we talking about? a good pic of it?
-Can an accurate cam be made from a standard helmetcam?

cheers,

Marc

I'm not sure about the "Vivitar flash thingy" either. A newly discovered part?

As for the helmet camera question, the camera body on the SG headset is actually smaller than that of the helmet cam. You have to backfill the angle with Bondo, which makes the headset get real heavy all of a sudden ;) It can be usesd, as I did for my first prototype, but it's in-accurate :)

Ah-ha! Light dawns on Marble Head! Didn't realise it wasn't part of the Olympus unit itself :o

Oopsie!

And I'll definately be sending a set of the "rubbish" back with your original parts, along with some other goodies ;)

don`t send too much back Jesse, you know I have to pay 20% VAT on all

Marc, the blue part is from the Vivitar 2500 flash unit, be happy that you didn`t throw the remaining parts in the bin.

Jesse you can send it to me, I don’t mind paying the VAT :P

' If ' the eye piece is a found part is it not likely to be from a manufacturer that we already know supplied parts, Hamma, Racal etc ?

I'm still absolutely dumb-founded by the import taxes & VAT that those of you on the other side of the pond have to pay. For those of you that haven't dealt with this before, if something gets shipped into the U.S., all you're paying for is the part, and the shipping. For our breathren in the UK & Europe, they have to pay import taxes, in addition to VAT. So a $100USD part ends up costing almost twice as much (IIRC). It's really quite incredible. Guess that's why we had the Boston Tea Party :)
