Post subject:  What's a good price for a real VP70?
Pals,

I know some of you own VP70s and some have seen them around... I came across a VP70z at a gun shop. They wanted $400 for it. Looks good and clean, and the shop is reputable. I was just wondering if this is a good price? I could've sworn someone had got a real one for like $320, but maybe I'm wrong.

Could those who own one let me know how much they paid for theirs? And those that have seen them say for how much?

I paid about that for a deactivated one about five years ago.

$400 sounds like a good price to me, I'd go for it if I were you.

I have been phoning around allot of gun shops looking for one,
and one shop had a VP70M which is the wrong one but anyway he offered to deactivate it for me and the price
was 400 Euros including the deactivation but I didn't buy it.

VP70M stands for military and the one used in the film is
a normal VP70 you can see this on the aliens quadrilogy box
set disk 4 under weapons which is really great.

I've shot full-auto rifles (AK, M16); I wonder what it feels like to shoot 9mm full-auto pistol ?? Less than 1 second and the whole clip is emptied out ...:shock:

Are you sure it's a VP70? I'm sure the version used in ALiens is a VP70M - the grip is different, the lip that runs around the grip isn't there on the civillian version.

I've just acquired the VP70 from Aliens and for the record it is just a plain VP70 that has been deactivated by Bapty. I would say $400 is a great price...

so far as I understand the VP70Z and VP70M is equal in design. The only difference is that the M accept the shoulder stock with the ability of a 3-rounds-burst shoot and fullauto. The Z version is not able to use the stock.
So the gun used in Aliens should be the "normal" VP70.

That's a pretty good price...that's what they were asking for this one... it's not what I paid but that's what they were asking for it..:P

Regarding the versions used in the movies I keep getting facts bounced by me by all sorts of in the know people and....they're all different!..:lol:

Bottom line is I really don't care. I am in no way as picky as some people...I a buy prop for ME to make ME happy....
Best way to get me to roll my eyes at you is to nitpick about some petty differences in a prop or an item.â€

That one in the picture IS the "M" model...the full auto version. According to the ones I've seen here in the states.

The serrations in the slide are smaller and though not shown the rear of the grip has a place where the stock attaches.
Ive found that the slides are not the truest test to Z or M configuration as I have seen them on both types of guns...the only real test is by looking at the back strap of the gun to see if its got the cutouts for the stock.

The "Z" model I pictured above has larger serrations and no provisions for a stock attachment. But Hk Pro shows a full auto type with large serrations and the butstock provision..not very helpfull.

Not as helpfull as getting a look at a screen cap and seeing ..A: which slide to use...and B:if there are notches in the back of the grip for the stock...

I wish I had some better photos for you but the back of the gun does have the notches where the stock clips into place at the top and bottom of the grip. I will take some shots from all angles for everyone to see.

I think it's like this:
The first version of the VP70 had no "M" or "Z" ,a thump rest of the left side of the grip and it could be fitted with the shoulder stock to fire 3-round bursts. That's the model that was used in Aliens.
With later models Heckler&Koch introduced the civilian version VP70 Z which could not be fitted with the shoulder stock. This one did not have the thump rest and the slide was slightly differend. The military version VP70 M was produced at the same time as the VP70 Z and had the same appearance as the VP70Z (except for the "M" ;) ). It could however be fitted with the shoulder stock and thus fire 3-round bursts. These two versions are different to the one used in Aliens!

So the right one is the VP70 without the M or Z!

Damn-it Matt, for the hundredth time, they used a 1/8" nut driver head machine screw in the screen used sonic discombobulator and NOT the button head screws.

Gee golly whiz guys... didn't mean to get you all riled up. :D

Thanks for all the responses in regards to price.

In regards to which models were used... I seem to remember a still featuring Frost (with VP70) and Dietrich (with flame thrower), both were in profile. I'm pretty sure that the VP70 Frost has has the vertical grip lines on the slide (as opposed to the diagonal ones).

The other thing we might keep in mind... I don't know how hard VP70s were to find in the mid 80s, but maybe they were just as hard to find then as they are now, so they got a hold of Zs, Ms, or just the plain VP70s figuring no one would ever be that anal to notice multiple models were used. (boy, were they wrong).

Ehh... just a thought.
