The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

These are the final details received from Dragon Con about the fan tables. The last 2 years I've been downstairs early Friday with a few others to claim the fan table. This year I WILL NOT be able to.
Someone must take the lead and be downstairs no later than 8am in order to claim a good table.

Here are the rules, not perfect but could be worse.

--
Hello everyone,

I'm writing this email with a bit of bad news and as a reminder of Dragon*Con's fan table rules. I'll start with a reminder of the fan table rules for Dragon*Con this year:

1) All tables must be manned during Dragon*Con hours. This is 10 AM to 7 PM. If your table is caught unmanned, you will be given a warning. Repeat offenders will be asked not to promote their fan group at Dragon*Con again and will be denied fan table service in the future.

2) All merchandise sold at the convention MUST have the logo or name of the fan group permanently on it. There is no exception to this rule. Anyone selling items without the fan group on it will be requested to remove the item from sale. If caught a second time, you will not be allowed to promote your fan group at Dragon*Con in the future.

3) Each table comes with two chairs. Those are your chairs. Everyone else has theirs. Do not take from other tables for any reason. Repeat offending will get your banned from the fan tables as the other rules do; this is no less severe.

4) New as of 2006 (But with advanced warning now! Sorta), no raffles or drawings may be held for the fan group. Again, there are no exceptions. It's hard to hide a raffle or drawing, too. Please don't make any attempts. We will disperse the crowd and stop your drawing / raffle immediately and it only gives the crowd a sour taste towards Dragon*Con and your fan group.

5) The tables will not be allowed to be moved for any reason. You've enough room behind your table for a person sitting and a person to squeeze behind the sitting person. You may place items behind the table that will fit in that, but you would lose your place to sit. Nothing may be placed in front of, or besides, your table.

Those are the set-in-stone rules for these tables. They help maintain flow of people as well as keep things fair for everyone. The 2006 raffle rule came as a result of people raffling off non-logo'd merchandise to "sell" their items. As long as people follow the rules set now, no additional rules will be put in place to make future Fan Table groups complain :)

And now for the bad news: As some already know from last year, the Marriott is under renovation. Last year wasn't bad and we managed to get by with it just fine. However, this year we've lost over half of our floor space and there is no through traffic.

What this comes down to is A SEVERE LOSS IN TABLES AND TRAFFIC. WE CAN NO LONGER GUARENTEE TABLES WITH GOOD TRAFFIC. I apologize, but the hotel took it into their own hands to do this, not me. As a result of this, to keep things fair to the later arrivals to Dragon*Con, I will NOT be allowing people to claim tables on Thursday, only Friday. Available tables will be first come, first served manner. At Friday at 4 PM, any unclaimed tables (Unlikely this year) will be opened for people on the reserved and stand-by list in a first come, first serve fashion.

Again, I apologize about this, but it was completely out of my control. If there are any other questions, feel free to email me

--

No replies needed. I just want to make it clear what needs to be done by us for the table and that I cannot help due to my late arrival. Sorry guys.
See you all late Friday or at the parade staging area Saturday
(hoping and praying my flights are not delayed)

Also, please bring your 'Active Duty Papers' if you have them.
Trust me, we need some sort of proof of members only meals!!!!

Well could someone at least reply that they are able to secure the table?

I won't (not that early at least) as I will not be in Atlanta until 11am- and figure another hour or so to check-in, settle in, gear up, grab my Dcon-pass, and our parade ribbons.

Ang and I have to be down there for our "Costume Emergency" table grab. If you don't mind being next to us (at least one hour a day  ) then we'll try to grab one for the Corps.

Now 1) they say 8, does that really mean 6 to stake a claim? and 2) Are we getting power ie need money to pay some Dragon dude?

I need a few more details if I'm going to claim a table:

Do I just grab a likely lookin' table, knocking aside anyone in da way?

Do I need to sign in with anyone in particular in DCon organizational, and then grab a likely lookin' table, knocking aside anyone in da way?

Also, I will not be in USCM Gear while doing so, I'll be in Endor Commando Gear...

Heh!

You have to find the Con Staff in charge of the fan tables first (I think), and tell him/her that the USCM has arrived.

Then you can lay claim. But I haven't had to do that since '04. Things may have changed.

You know this isn't the 501st...

So we don't really care what you're wearing. Right guys?

Right guys? :?

So when is The Dark Knight going to make his first appearance? :D

I'll gear up first after I get settled in on Friday. It will be early evening for the Boy Wonder to emerge.

Just a friendly FYI that the 501st doesn't care what is worn at D*C, either. It is a "fun con", and about as far from "official" as can be. :)

Well I was kidding you know.

Don't they have a rule about wearing a 501st uniform while manning the fan table? I do know the Jedi Assembly does (at the very least a TJA logo shirt).

Anyway- that's what the con is all about: having fun!! :D

Yes, "Rebel Scum" will have the table covered. (we do win in the end...hmmm, perhaps some "trophies" might be cool...)

At 8 am, I must be down at the Marriott fan table area.

I must locate Fan Staff (perhaps?) and tell them that USCM have arrived!

I must then claim a table. Now, do I have to wait there until relieved? Might a banner or something be put to use?
That is coming with?

I sure don't want to get the table and then have it snagged because I went to get coffee, take a leak, have pics taken, etc.

And Kev, the Dark Knight will be with you Friday evening as well. Still need to put the final touches on the costume to-friggin-night!!

 :D

As for the table, that is probably true, but I am not sure. But, yeah, I am setting out early Thursday morning to have the time of my life. I'll be sure to introduce myself to you guys.

Rex, find the person with the clipboard walking around.
The last 2 years about 7:30-8 it has been quiet down there but I'm sure most people got their tables the Thursday night.

Pete was there last year, he knows!!

Thanks guys.

Actually, the 501st does care what you wear at DragonCon, if not, I wouldn't have been reprimanded so many times, or told that I was forbidden from wearing female Star Wars Character Costumes at DC.

So there!

I think I'm also no longer allowed to wear trooper armor of any sort at DC anymore. But I think that was more a "friendly" suggestion than a rule.

A spoon works better. Duct tape won't stop the vision from seeping through. Only plucking the offended orbs from the head will save you.
