The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys,

Has it been set in stone yet what time we are doing the colony sweep? Traditionally it's been around 4-4:30 on Saturday.

As you know- I'm bringing several costumes this year. I've been invited to a Marvel vs DC photoshoot on Saturday afternoon at exactly that time: 4-4:30. They need a Wolverine and I fit the bill.

So I'm asking that the sweep be done a little earlier or later than usual say 2pm or 6pm. Otherwise you won't have a PIG gunner supporting the squad.

You last that long? :P

I'm just funnin' with ya big guy!

Anyway on the subject of the sweep- can we plan this one out a little more? Maybe do the "entering the hive" slow approach like we did in '05?

Mall? You guys did a sweep in the MALL?

Oh, man. That's beyond hilarious. My Can't-Wait-O-Meter just pegged the gauge.

I like the sound of a mall crawl...

I'll need to know where we'll end up... I need to get Jennifer aka Squashed Spider in her bug suit to wait for us at our destination.

I don't know about this guys . . .

I am having the sinking feeling of being the sole-lonely sheep dog in a fricken huge herd of sheep except someone's gone and armed the sheep and told them to get that DOG!

Yeah umm...

Huh? :?

You do understand we're not actually going to shoot you yes? Or hit, punch, kick, bite, or even pinch you for real. We're just play acting.

Last year we ended up in the Hyatt lobby- I think that would be a great staging area for photo ops that any bugs could meet us at.

Moving through the food court/mall works- we just take the passage way to the Hyatt.

Jen, you'll have fun, I guarantee it.

Check out the last 8 pics here and the first 3 here... these were taken at the conclusion of the Colony Sweep.

No physical contact with the xenomorph!
would be my only suggestion. I have a bruise on my forehead from a whack at my first ever colony sweep (Polaris 2007). Combat like that needs to be very well choreographed but I'd just as soon not get hit at all, thank you kindly! :-D

Way to go Dom!

I just get finished posting that we're not going to hurt her and what do you go and do?

Clock her in the head with a wooden samurai sword. :(

How have you guys signaled to the civies that the sweep is over? We need some for of "ending" if another sweep is done at Polaris.

Do any of you marines reassure the civilians as you are going along?

<thoughts of a bug>

You mean the actual people watching us?

Well... Polaris was only the third time we've done it.

With the two previous sweeps- in Atlanta guns are much more acceptable, and within the context of the convention (with over 40 000 costumers attending over the 3 day weekend), everyone pretty much understands we are just acting and no one has freaked out.

Not yet at least.

The ending of the sweep tends to be an anti-climax as we aren't carrying blank-firing guns for a big shootout (we wouldn't be allowed to use them even if we did have blanks). We kinda of just end up standing around with that "OK now what?" look going. :?

As for an ending, I really liked what was discussed the next day, about having a standoff- and the marines are about to start blasting when all of the sudden the Weylan Yutani guys step in and yell out "NO! NO! NO! We have to save it for research!"

They can then put a leash around it's neck or something and lead it away.

It diffuses the standoff- so there is no need for a big shootout, and really is an ending.

I'm liking this already! Don't know how I missed this thread until today!

I really like the idea of planning the sweep better. Not so hurried, more of a "tactical sweep". Picking cover, another Marine leapfrogs ahead, so on and so on. Setting perimeter security at corners, etc.

Great idea to have a "ending" as well. That's a darn good idea! And maybe then a "beginning" too. Perhaps a couple Marines come in shouting "Xenomorphs!! They've been spotted!!" Something like that!

Cool deal Kev on the Marvel vs. DC photo shoot. Haven't been to LOH in awhile, have to check that out. :)

Rex-

The Marvel vs DC is being hosted by the Cosplay.com forum. LOH'ers are going to be there as well as the Cosplay group.

Here is a link to the thread on the Cosplay forum:

Marvel vs DC Photoshoot and Gathering

Hope The Dark Knight can make it (unfortunately the Boy Wonder will be dressed as something else  ).

Yeah I'm bringing the jacket- not too sure how long I'll be wearing it.

I'll eventually go down to the white tank top ala X2.

If I'm really bold I might go for the "King of the Cage" shirtless look!

Well it looks like the Cosplay Marvel vs DC photoshoot is being re-scheduled to 2pm. It hasn't been set in stone yet, but at any rate I've made the decision not to attend it.

That means...

We can have the Colony Sweep at the usual time of 4pm on Saturday!

Unless you grunts are happy with the earlier 2pm thing.

Regardless I'll be USCM from the parade in the morning until after we finish the sweep. I have to attend another gathering in my Grayson suit, but that will not be until 7pm or so.

Carry on gentlemen.

Ok I was asked by Dom if Iwas going to be in my Pred suit or doing the sweep in my marine armor. If I do wear my pred suit what type of ending would it be me against all. hahahah
