The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

OK grunts I've got the low down on all the info for the parade---

Parade Day: Saturday, September 2, 2006

Timetable:

9:00 - 9:30 AM (Line-up/Staging)
10:00 AM (Step-off)
11:00 AM approximately (End)

Where to be: Woodruff Park (Peachtree St and Auburn Ave, about 4 blocks south of the Hyatt Regency)

First Contact: At Con Check-In and Ribbon Pick-Up
Parade staff will be manning a table in the convention Registration area in Grand Hall in the Hyatt Regency.
Hours:
Thursday 4:00 - 9:00 PM
Friday 9:30 AM - 9:00 PM

We’ll do a final confirmation of your section assignment (placement) in the parade line-up, registration information, and give you parade ribbons which must be worn along with your D*C badges on parade day. Group leaders/contacts are responsible for giving out ribbons to each member of their group.

(NOTE: I will be handling check in for us, and handing out our purdy ribbons. We are all winners this day! YAY! )

Parade Day: Lining Up and Stepping Off

Parade staff is on duty in Woodruff Park from 8:00 AM until the last person marching has stepped onto Peachtree Street. We’re there to answer questions and take care of last minute concerns and details. Parade staff wears special badges identifying them. Please direct all of your parade-related questions to them, and follow any instructions they give. To avoid any confusion, delays and unnecessary repositioning, parade staff members are the only people authorized to make decisions during line-up (unless over ridden by the Atlanta PD).

Line-up/staging officially begins at Woodruff Park at 9:00 AM. Early arrivals however are most appreciated and encouraged! Woodruff Park is about 4 blocks south of the Hyatt Regency on Peachtree Street at Auburn Avenue. Please plan to be at there by 9:15 AM. Line-up will be completed and final by 9:45 AM, which means if you aren’t in the line-up and ready to go at that time, you might not be in the parade at all. All parade components (vehicles and parade sections) will be lined up according to the “section designationâ€

Okay there is a strong possiblility that it might rain the day of the parade.

According to D-Con the parade goes on rain or shine- but I want to ask everyone how they would feel about marching in the rain.

My gear is painted with water based colours so the idea of getting it wet certainly doesn't appeal to me.

This is how I see it...

Drizzle- We're going! :D

Light/intermittent rain- Still going.

Steady shower- Your call (majority vote?). :|

Downpour- Forget it. :(

Thoughts?
Kevin

Sounds reasonable, Sarge.

Stand ready to go, and call it as we see it then.

A little light rain would be cool, maybe. LITM.

Chris

Would the grunts have stopped for just a little drizzle?
Would they have stayed on the Sulaco and had more corn bread?
Would they have stayed in the dry and raced the Powerloaders around the hanger??

Probably. And they would still be alive.
But whats a little rain?
It'll be cooler if nothing else :)

Sarge, if you have time, hit the local hardware store and pick up a can of clear spray sealer. It's made by a number of companies, from Duplicolor (automotive sealer) to several others. I usually use it, and when dry I hit it with some clear "dull coat" made by Testors. A couple coats of that and you'll be ready for monsoon season. :)

Thanks Russ. I know I went over my armour with Krylon OD to tone down the colours, however I can't remember if I went over it with dullcote or not.

Don't forget my armour is also cloth under all that paint- not plastic or ABS. ;)

What I'm really worried about is melting. :(

Not to mention what all you grunts are going to smell like when you're soaking wet.

Kidding. ;)

For now we will play it by ear- hopefully we won't have to make a decision and it will be clear skies as usual. :)

Melting? What? Are you made of Sugar? A little water ain't gonna hurt you.

No really ... what Russ suggested. Clear coat everything if that hasn't been done. It protects from scratches and the like too. I've used Semi-gloss, Gloss, and Dullcoat and it really helps protect the finish.

Chris

That's exactly what I meant. ;)

Didn't the sarcasm drip on your keyboard? ;)

Seriously, I'm not sure if I'll have time to apply multiple coats, but I might just go with the dullcote.:)

Ditto.

Should I bring the parade banner that we've used in the past? LMK.

K, no response.

I'll take it as a "no" and leave it here. One less thing to pack.

I'm bringing the flag still. Hopefully someone will be able to bring the flag pole. A broom handle may even work in a pinch I guess.
