Table Staffing Hours
Table staffing requirements are designated to maximize exposure for the groups given the traffic patterns of Dragon Con members. Tables are required to be staffed during the hours listed below:
Friday, September 2nd – 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Saturday, September 3rd – 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Sunday, September 4th – 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

While the hours above are required, there is still a lot of traffic and people moving around much later into the day. It would be ideal to staff your table until 8:00 PM Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Staffing your table on Monday, September 4th is optional, but there is still a lot of traffic.

OK folks, about that DCon fan table...

What's it for? To some it's a anchor, a place we can say "I'll meet you at the table in 10 minutes". For others, It's a nice rest stop in the madness that is DCon. For some, it's a locker, where you can stash stuff while you are on your way to something else.

But, what it should ideally be is a place to represent the group to the public. Where we put our best foot forward and show ourselves off.

So, when it comes time to staff the table, you can hear the audible groan as folks roll their eyes and think "awww really? But it's DragonCon and I got other stuff I wanna do". I feel ya, I used to say "but I am on holiday" and skip away with never a thought for those on the table. Now I am one of the folks who help organise it, I look back on that comment and cringe. It made me look like a selfish douchebag to those who had put in the work.

So it's left down to a few folks to organise things like the meal, the table, the parade. Magic pixies don't make those things happen, people do.

Honestly, with the lack of interest, there's been talk of dropping the table altogether. To me, that would be a real real real shame.

So, if we want to keep the table, the community needs to step up a bit.

So what can you do?

1 hour at the table, wearing an Aliens themed shirt or (even better) your costume. Smile, talk to folks, have some fun with it. Tell them why our community is awesome and why you like being a part of it, show off your costume or props.

And when the hour is done, to the BAR!!!!! (Try Trader Vic's, their Mai Tai is the bomb).

So folks, what do you say? Give us an hour and I'll shut the hell up. Otherwise I'll follow you around during DCon, making disgusting sounding wet smacking noises behind you that will give you horrific mental images.
