For those who don't know already. According to my inside sources, REGISTRATION WILL OPEN AT 0800 HRS THURSDAY MORNING, not 10 am like last year. It was mentioned that they wanted to try to get a jump start on getting the process started that day. The registration supervisor said the earlier time 'might' give them a head start, however, many volunteers are just starting to arrive at that time. So we'll see how effective this 'jump start' will be. Anyways, expect the rumor mill to let everyone know about the new start time. Which means..... the line up (or 'queue' for you brits) will start VERY EARLY Thurs morning. So if the line started at about 8am last year, think 6am this year.
I'm adjusting my recon time to about 7:30 am. (Starbucks save me!)

Good luck all, and God speed.

--------------------------------------------

Ok, here we go again. TONY PLEASE GET MY BADGE!

OK, for all you veterans, you know the drill!

Last year proved to be more challenging for me. I had to wait on the special services line with other staff to get badges. Granted, this still saved a lot of time for some people, but for others, it wasn’t worth it. Sooooo…
Since I'm making my usual 'registration recon' early Thurs, I'd like an idea of people showing up that day (or before). Just advise on this thread using a time chart list. (copy and paste to your post).
As a precaution, I can go to registration with groups of you and do a survey. If the line is hell, I'll see what I can do to expedite. If the line has a somewhat short wait, you really don’t need me and I’ll let you take care of it. If you register ON SITE, you can get your badge in under 20 mins. All you have to do is bite your lip and pay the extra cash.
Again, no promises. If for some reason the reg staff is slow or jacked up, some (or most) of you will be stuck making new friends in the pre-reg line. PLEASE, if possible, make an effort to get your own badges. But fear not, I will do my best to be your safety net if all else fails. But I limit this help to only AL members (and family). Sorry, this can get overwhelming if I have too many people to help.

ALSO: I can not, I say again, CAN NOT get free badges. But I really wish I could. ;)

Hey Tony,

First off, thanks for offering this, even if no one seems to have taken you up on it so far. :)

I'll probably be picking up a friend's badge, so i don't want to burden you with that; but i do have a question: the D-Con FAQ states:

Quote:
Can I pick up someone else’s badge?

Yes. To be able to pick up someone else’s badge for the convention, you need a permission slip from them along with a copy of their government issued Photo ID and their bar-coded confirmation postcard. The letter needs to read something to the effect of, “I Susan Smith gives my permission to John Smith to pick up my badge.” The membership owner must sign the letter.

One thing's unclear to me: would I need a copy of her postcard, or the actual postcard?

You've done this a lot, so you probably know - and should answer quicker than the official channels. If you don't know, no worries. :)

Cheers!

It helps to have the postcard, but you need a copy of their ID at the very minimum. I can help you get the badges if the lines are murder. Just let me know.

Helps, but isn't 100% essential. Gotcha.

Thanks - I'll find you if I feel I'm in too deep! :)

Our crew should roll in Thursday. I seem to recall it going quite quickly when you got ours last year. Was it previously even shorter?

Don't remember. Some lines were long, depending on what your last name was. If you should need me, just let me know. I'm planning to be at the Sheraton early Thursday for a while.

As usual, Tony is the unsung hero of this endeavour.

Nothing heroic about it. Just doing what I can to help.

What's the rally point for Thursday night when most of us get there?

Yeah... last year Tony dragged me through the hall, past every one queueing and got me "priority".
I could feel hundreds of daggers drilling into my back!  :delta:

We went through the switchback lines about a half a row behind Spat last year. The high - fives upon each change in direction got old quick! =P
