The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: questions about weapon replicas at comic con

I was reading the upcoming NYC comic con FAQ and it says no weapon replicas. But I've seen tons of footage from previous comic cons where cosplayers had fake guns. Is it a NY thing or a comic con thing. Because what good is a marine with out his pulse. Any info or onsite would be helpful

I'd be willing to guess that if this convention has been going in since before 2001, they cank'd it after 9/11.

There are tons of prop guns all over NYCC. Both being sold on the floor and carried by the fans.

The rule might be brand new (but I doubt it), or it's just there in case they need to toss someone out for being an ass.

orange tips usually do the trick.

though one time i had to use my police credentials to carry my Spulse around an anime con once.

Just keep in mind that regardless of the policy of the convention or the convention center, airsofts are illegal in New York City.

As are Transfats, sugar, salt, tobacco, homeless people, free thought, poor people, real guns and any cup larger than 6 ounces (unless it's being used by 2 girls).

I don't think personal space is allowed either, or at least wasn't when I spent Thanksgiving in Manhattan a couple years ago.

And, for gods sake, don't try thinking for yourself.

Or saying things like "for gods sake".

I wondered if it was a CYA policy where they can kick you out for doing anything under the 'well you're carrying a replica weapon'.

<Snicker>
I /love/ it when people refer to themselves as Marines and being weapons.
I find it funny because in REAL LIFE /boot camp/ Marine recruits must memorize a poem called "My Rifle"...
I quote the poem from memory: I am nothing without my rifle and my rifle is nothing without me ...
I also quote a well worn phrase in the ears of every Marine:
The most deadly weapon in the Marine Corps inventory is a Marine Private /and his rifle/.
Not trying to be a stickler BUT ... this just gives me a smirk.
I'll shut up about that now.
Honestly I'm hoping I'll have no trouble taking my props to: Emerald City Comic Con.
I'm gonna go with this I think:

Was there actually a rule about not being able to bring the guns to NY Comic Con listed in the info on their site?

HorrorHound Weekend had rules posted that they weren't letting anyone take video inside the convention and no one would be allowed to drink inside the area...both were happening.
