The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I think the best place to split ourselves up is in the staging area/start point.

Sounds like the same squads as last year's amazingly successful colony sweep! 8)

I just took the snow tires off my car last week.

Been hard getting around this summer though as the beaver ate my snowshoes.

Oh absolutely but I use Toronto as a reference but still not as cold as Alberta. However those places are much colder than what people from Atlanta are probably used to :P

I'll ask Girl Spectre if she'd be kind enough to video record our craziness.

I'll have a couple friends with me that I could ask, as well. They'd probably be recording with a digital cam in video mode, but what can ya do.

There was footage? I thought that was a rumor!

OH, the ones who don't have to mess with the footage get to laugh about it? Drop and give me 20!

I'll take a 10 and a couple fives, but no pocket change. ;)

I'm sorry for the delays. Work has been hell and believe it or not I AM mostly done with the bloody project. I have about 300 hours into editing this damn thing. 300 hours for 60 seconds of finished FX footage. Now I know why it took 2 years for the second Hulk movie to get into theaters.

I pretty much know what I'm doing now with the FX editing. Only took me 2 months to get to this point though.

If you guys are serious about doing another "serious" sweep for filming purposes, here's an editor's wish list...

1) If you're pretending to shoot your weapon. STOP shaking your weapon every so often. Seriously. Nobody fires full auto that much in reality. Not even Hicks and Hudson. Vasquez... well, that's another story.

2) Watch where you're aiming. Even though it's a fake gun, if it was real you'd be burning... important parts of each other's anatomy... with a weapon that shoots 3 feet of fire out the muzzle.

3) Cutaways. SHOOT THEM. Even documentary filmmakers shoot "extra" footage that can be intercut with the "interesting" parts. Maybe get the Alien to attack from a different direction, or different people... instead of being in the center of the action.

I realize it's a "live set," but there has to be a way.

3b) If possible, have more than one camera running. If you have 2 squads, stick a camera with each squad. Or, go back and film with the second squad after the fact. It can be added in later to appear like it's happening at the same time.

4) SHUT. OFF. THE. MOTION. TRACKERS. Dear god, make it stop. :D
The sound FX of the MR tracker is it's worst point when you're just plain 'ol doing a sweep. The frakking tracker is ALWAYS going off.
It gets redundant after a while.

Hudson: "I'm getting movement!"
Hicks: "No kidding Sherlock, you're in a convention hall with 900 other people!"

:D

Other than that... no problemo.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to editing. ;)

Russ

We're just giving you a hard time, Rook

If we end up filming again this year, I would suggest that we find a place to host the raw footage so that people can download and watch it in the meantime. ^_^ I'd be more than happy to pitch in for some server space, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I have decided not to bring the armour or rifle to both save travel time/hassle as well as additional costs for larger/heavier bags.

As much as I wanted to utilize my new gear this year I think it'll be best if I just travel and costume lighter - the benefit of this being able to scoot around for better shots during the parade and sweep Saturday. I also figure since Saturday night and a good portion of Sunday will have me in my Jayne Cobb costume like last year I wouldn't really be wearing the armour much.

So yeah... Maybe next year for the armour but for now with the airline hassles I'll just settle for getting there and enjoying a couple days before flying off again to get to the start of school in time ;)

Yes thank you, hopefully I'll be a bit more organized and less stressed than what I've been through this year (house burning down for starters).

Either way as you full well know I LOVE taking video and photos and have come up with some great stuff before so this will just be a chance to do more of that this year (Looking for silver cloud in grey lining :P)

I'm sorry not to be going this year. I was looking forward to meeting bugs from across the pond. I shall miss being in the parade...for Chris.

Once a year the Marriot Marquis calls out to rid their hotel of vermin... in the absence of anyone qualified, the job normally falls on us. So here's how it'll happen this year as it did last year and the year before that...

Dry-run (rehearsal and planning) is at 13:00 This is a chance mandatory for anyone who wishes to be a squad leader, point man or on their first combat drop. Highly suggested for anyone who wishes to know what the course of the sweep will be and wants to practice it. RV at Ops (fan table) at 12:50, we leave from there at 13:00 sharp.

Colony Sweep is at 14:00 RV at the fan table is a 13:45 and departure is at 14:00 sharp. From there we go to the staging area just outside the bar. Briefing begins and we sweep all the way down back to Ops. We should have anywhere between 2-4 bugs this year, so pack your BFGs and lots of grenades.

I get more "tweaks" done on my rig every year. Hopefully I should have the bugs worked out of the arm - no pun intended - and my armor plate done by this Con!

Man, can you believe it's already June?

(Hi from Sicily, by the way!)

2-4 bugs, eh?

That'll vastly improve last year's....... none.

The important thing is that it was still a blast. Can't wait to do it again.

Aww, it's okay. They were wiped out from the parade last year, haha. After that heat, I can't blame them!
