The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Yikes, just reading some of these posts gets my blood boiling... I'm a tolerant and easy-going individual who minds his own business, but I have ABSOLUTE ZERO tolerance for being messed around with, unless purely by accident, and especially by thoughtless strangers. Any moron tries that kind of crap on me and they'll more than likely get a mouth full of PR butt before they know what hit 'em... Nighty-night, sucker. Grrrrrr. lmao

Thanks to you all for the advance warning, btw... I'll be extra vigilant this summer at D-Con (my first).

You might want to refrain from beating some drunk idiot senseless.
They'll end up hurt. You'll end up in jail. And they'll still have gotten
away with messing with you.

Just a word of caution. :)

Full body tackle is an easy way to remind some one not to piss off the guy wearing the 65 pound shirt. And for some reason saying "oops i slipped" will actually work. Next time some one does something like that you could always 'accidently' bump. It wont be quite the same as landing on top of them with some stainless steel chain, but it will get the point across. Ive done demos at a few schools for the SCA, there was one were some idiot got the idea he was going to stab me with a fork. It didn't end the way he thought it would.

I think I've been pretty fortunate with regards to the Smartgun rig... I dunno if it's just intimidating or what, but I don't really get a lot of people trying to rap on it or anything. I had a couple try to punch the chest plate, though, which was pretty funny... the plate is fiberglass-reinforced aluminum ;)

I don't even want to think about what I would do to someone who intentionally damaged my Smartgun, though.

Hmm... Now I 'm starting to think about bringing my Guardian Angel with me this year, lol.

Hopefully that stuff is all liquid based and not gas based. I had some kids
shoot off a can of old fashioned mace in my workplace. The air system
cycled it through the place. We couldn't reenter for over an hour. :(

Jerks.

It's a gel liquid that gets fired out of a spray nozzle by a tiny explosive cap, actually :3. Comes out in a narrow cone, hard enough to go around wraparound shades  And the best part is, it's got two shots in it.

Do I think it's something I'm likely to actually need? Naaah. Might be nice to have around if some drunken frat boy gets physical, though.

Some of you may have noticed that my last three costumes are police-related. Nobody fcuks with me... in fact, I have people nodding and smiling for a change.

I fully believe in the power of cheap toss-away yet blindingly bright LED mini lights, it's amazing what kind of a headache they can give to an assailant (ie drunk idiot) and be perfectly legal to use. The same kind I mount on my shoulder armour are now down to $2/each and get quite bright with alkaline batteries ;)

This kinda crap is why I like my Starfleet costumes.
No knocks, punches or stuff. At a con, it makes you sorta blend in, folks leave you alone. The only bother you get is from folks who take interest in the costume and ask questions about what its made of, where you got it, etc.

I don't mind photos or questions. Something I reckon I will get more of at an upcoming convention as I have a costume being tailor made for me.

I do mind however when expensive costumes being kocked, pulled, torn, rattled, scratched and broken by folks playing big in front of their mates.
Had it been me in the metal armour, feeling that knock and seeing the crying girl, my reaction would have been a simple sentence: "serves you bloody right".

I feel no sympathy for the silly cow.

Another thing I'd like to point out, isn't this sort of activity called "assualt"?

If someone hit me hard enough to break something, or rattle my bones, I'd be looking for a police officer.

There are police at DragonCon, yes?
Or are they ineffectual (i.e. just there for looks)?

The Police at DC are there to "keep things under control." Granted, there are thousands of drunk crazy
people at DC and less than a hundred officers. So basically what they do is "passive" crowd control.
Mostly seems to work. Mostly.

Wish I could find a costume where I could wear my issued Interceptor vest and then watch someone try to punch Kevlar with an ESAPI plate inside it. Passive-Aggressive :D
