The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As I mentioned before (and the previous successful tests) I'll also have my video camera mounted on my rifle and I'm happy to help record this.

Note I'm going to try to come through with my Longshot so in case even that gets pinched at the airport I can just use the video camera in my hands and will be able to record and send the video via megaupload, rapidshare or some other file hoster.

Is it neccessary to have all those involved do the test run of the sweep ?
I think it kinda gives away, what we are up to a little early.
Other thoughts that I have had is to have the aliens and preds further ahead in the lead.
No Dom not like Benny Hill, but more of a fox and hound hunt.
Or at the end of the sweep we stop searching and the Alien/preds converge on us.
Or heck, make it a comedy and start off all menacing and end it in a game of rock/paper/scissors.
Again, just a few thoughts.

I'm inclined to agree with the walkthrough bit, I recall all of us walking around en masse last year gave it away. Also I got the impression form a few photograph seekers that when it was mentioned where trying to just get ready they may have been put off from trying to take pics of the actual event.

Perhaps just have the squad leaders go on the tour first?

I love the comedy idea too, but my guess is that it's not a viable option - I loved the paper scissors rock with alien vs. predator at the end of one of last year's DC videos.

I don't mean to shoot this down but... The Hyatt has become so crowded in recent years that we had to completely avoid it last year.

You really don't know how jammed packed it gets during the day (especially Saturday afternoon). There is literally no room to move let alone play out a colony sweep. Think of rush hour on a subway/tube system.

Not to mention the D-Con security goons are total arses in the Hyatt.

Thanks I'll keep it in mind.

As it is I may not even bring the gear and just some MaultiCam to hang with and film for y'all - will be much nicer temperature wise.

If all we have this year is gun-cam, helmet-cam guys with us, those personnel would have to be mindful of their positioning... it will nevertheless make an interesting video.

I think that the European Marines making their own squad for the sweep is a great idea, so long as the squad leader has some kind of military/paintball/airsoft or any kind of know-how to be able to position his troops.

If there are no objections, the North American squads will be led once again by two Canadian guys... :)

So, we'll have 2 NA squads and one EUR squad? When will we decide who's where?

Well, if you have any strong attachments to Mother England, you can switch sides, I won't mind.

I think the best place to split ourselves up is in the staging area/start point.

I still can't wait to see the footage from last year's sweep, hehe. I've had a project on the backburner for a while that I should be able to resurrect once I get some more action footage to work with :)

If it's going to be easier just to have someone go around as a cameraman I'm certainly entertaining the idea. It will definitely free up space in luggage and make the time in customs go faster if I'm just recording and not gearing up.

Hell if I do that I can just throw all I want into my duffel and call it a day ;)

Well it's not that I'll still have the camo and patches on but less weight from the armour and rifle, able to zoom around better to get my shots and blend in with the group at same time.

I'll make the decision by the end of the week.

Well still consider... we might wind up doing more than one sweep (like happened with the Sunday sweep last year). So you could get your turn. Besides your armor is way too cool to leave at home.

We can always recruit someone else too.

You could be a combat videographer, something like Joker in Full Metal Jacket, except with a video camera.

I'd have to hear back to truly understand what you meant... Again I apologize for sounding negative above---

If you'd rather hang out at the bar while we are doing the sweep that is perfectly acceptable; it is your vacation after all! :)

And on the other hand if you would prefer to have your own independant sweep that's cool too! 8)

But just understand that the Hyatt does get pretty crowded for a colony sweep performance... And drinking space for that matter.

The other thing to consider too is that my time is split between you guys and my Browncoat friends where I'll be costuming as Jayne Cobb (another crowd pleaser :)) so I can only record so much but I'm definitely game for the Parade and sweep after it.

Thanks too, I do like the camo concept on the armour but if I'm really going to try to get good shots I'll be sweating up a storm in the heat not including the armour.. hence why I've gotta think some stuff through and be pragmatic.

I don't Browncoat it up at D*con anymore because of the heat. lol.

But yeah, I can see. Not all of us are Southern who can handle the weather so yeah considering how soaked my costume was last year I shudder to think how it would be for you this year.

Yes of course, the heat is definitely a consideration. For example for the Jayne Cobb costume it's pants and a t-shirt with very minimal gear, same thing also goes for another alternate outfit - I'm considering wearing a black golf shirt with a Ravenwood crest on it for a Jericho costume.

FWIW I've never been a summer person but have been known to go gleefully for lengthy excursions in winter :P Not to play on Canadian stereotypes but I do like the winter 10x more than summer but that's just because I'm a weirdo. ;)

Hey no probs - I'll definitely be in the Jayne gear by Saturday evening around 7pm and heading to the Shindig later on. Sunday is unknown at this point what I'll be doing, I only wish I had more time to be there :O

No offence taken Ssgt... Just my British sense of humour being lost in the translation.... something I know we are going to have to watch carefully at Dcon :)

I was not suggesting in any way a break from your usual Colony Sweeps, or even a USCM / UKCM / UACM split... but thinking of it now you guys had better watch out for a "Gunny Highway" ambush or two.... check those corners Marine, a flying teacup can cause some damage at close range
