The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Oh yeah agreed. And yes I was there when you were taking some of those pics last year. lol.

I also remember using Sunday as a BSG day and missing the hanging out with the USCM.

EDIT: That being said, why don't we have a Marine party to get some... atmosphere of our own?

Please, do not bring out that picture with AW and a white bath towel!

I dunno. Every con that the UKCM goes to ends in a lengthy (and very pleasant) eat-drink-chat-fest. But 3 in one weekend? I dunno if my stomach or my sanity could take it.

Also, nothing happens in the evening at UK cons. I have a feeling that Abe might be too excited about the novelty of female T&A at a convention to think about eating.

Dom, go screw yourself. That was not what I wrote. Go back and read it again, and if you can't understand what I was trying to say, then ask me directly instead of telling me to get off your thread. You are the last person who should talk about thread hijacking.

And that was not what I was doing. Re-read my post. I was saying that we should be there to enjoy each other's company, and spend time together rather than rushing through it.

And now, I can assure you that any dinner you are at, I will be quite absent from.

I am insanely tired of your strong arm tactics and your incessant over planning of even the most simple and fun events. I personally am going to DragonCon to have fun, not to be regimented or ordered around by you.

And I am sorry that it had to blow up here, but I have had it up to here with this. If you want to be a control freak and plan everything out, go join the 501st. I'm sure they have a Garrison near you that will let you join, but we Marines are here to have fun.

I'm on the brink of nuking this entire thread right now, this bullsh!t has got to STOP!

Everyone's free to do what they want at D'Con. THAT is the bottom line. Nobody should be criticised for not attending the meals, or for staying at the hotel; it's their choice.

I am personally a little confused as to why folks want to leave the hotel to eat every night mind you - in my mind the place where the event is being held surely is the hub of all that goes on.

From what I've heard D'con is pretty much a 24-7 kind of event and I think most of us Brits, with our 11pm licensing laws at most venues, want to experience a little of that.

Please remember who we are here - a bunch of people from all over the world, brought together by the love of a great movie. Nothing more and nothing less. I've made many friends in my years as an Aliens fan and that's what we should all be looking to now.

Last word? Behave or be banned.

Harry

Edited for spelling.

BTW, just before you get interested in continuing the diatribe of how you should just go eat at McDonald's or some other garbage food you can stuff down your gullet just so that you can just go throw yourself quickly back into the fray, please go start another thread, I'm sure you'll pick up a few interested people.

This thread is for marines like me who prize friendship and camaraderie over the external advantages of alcoholism and T&A. I go to DCon to see my brothers... everything else comes second.

I just needed to quote this section to make a couple points.

When I went in '06, I pretty much spent the ENTIRE con with the 'Legacy crew. Except for my hour in line to get Ghosthunters autographs for my wife, I DIDN'T see the rest of the "real" con.

I didn't hang with my Scifihero.net crew or really interact with any other groups except in a brief fashion.

Now it WAS fun to hang with the AL guys, but you must realize that as Harry said (I'll paraphrase), the UK guys in particular will be here to experience the kind of convention they don't have in the UK.

To take 3-6 hours EVERY night for a leisurely dinner... seems like a lot of time at what is really a very short time span.

Honestly, in '06 the meal we had at the HRC was fun, the unmitigated disaster at Hooters was a tremendous waste of everyone's time, energy and money. I think the best meals I had at DC were Subway with all the guys in armor (during the day) and the Dominoes Pizza drunkfest with Alex, Dave, Treadwell, Chris and Angie.

In the end it's about having fun with people you don't get to see very often (or in the case of the UK guys (not counting Pete... :) ever).

Dom, please don't be disappointed that not everyone will want to sit at a resteraunt for 3-6 hours every night. You'd be better served to perhaps pick one night to get as many togeather as possible.

One of the best parts of DC (And Aliens costuming) is it's free form nature. Don't try and overly regulate fun. Excessive regulation is what makes it un-fun. And makes it the 501st.

Sorry, you knew I was going to poke a finger at them (even if I don't really mean it. ;) ).

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more... this applies to people like Spat who goes to DCon for other reasons than myself and others. Last year we had the three USCM dinners... everybody in attendance had an awesome time and nobody (as far as I know) complained about how much time we had wasted with each other. I got the chance to spend a last few precious moments with a friend who's now deceased... so, I feel all this time spents was perfectly justified. All I'm doing here is to make the experience, for those who want to repeat it, easier for us to get the huge mob of us who will undoubtedly end up eating together all three nights... Quite honestly, if it's 2 or 22 it's all the same to me... I get to spend time with my friends and I've done myself to prepare for accomodations for all who want to be there.

Rook wrote:

Absolutely not! I will in no way be disspointed if not every marine doesn't come..! This is not an obligation! I just wanted to know who wants to go have dinner, on what night and and at what location so I can make reservations.

Well..this will be my 13th DC....and heres how I see it every year.. When the evening starts approaching, the dealers, Con-goers, and Guests usually start heading to rooms to shower and go to dinner as well. The little time that we may spend at dinners has us missing nearly nothing. (Unless you really like to watch dealers cover up there merchandise)..we are usually at dinner during the "down time". (Although DC really has no down time...) But just try to understand what I mean. 90% of the people are going to dinner the same time we are...and then do the same as we do..get back into costume ready to hit the lobbies..
Im going for the chance to hangout with my fellow Marines...Ive seen pretty much everything DC has to offer...Yes, the T&A is great, but once youve seen one pair, after a few beers they start looking the same.
I think what Dom is doing is great..all he is doing is trying to keep our brotherhood together..for the ONE chance per year that we get to see one another.

And Harry...I really dont think youll wanna eat the Hotel food..not the best in the world. Lets just say, scrambling up a Queen egg would be more appetizing

LOL! I know what you mean but I guess in convention terms it's sometimes about 'fuel' and not real food, and to be honest there's probably not much in it between a Marriott Burger and one from The Hard Rock Cafe. To me real food is neither of those things.

I just think everyone should be able to choose what they do. I don't doubt we'll all be hanging out most of the time anyway, and I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys! :)

Since we're still talkin' bout eatin' at DCon...

1 hour, 1 1/2 hours tops to eat. Completely discounting the camaradarie, I found it really recharged my batteries to sit and chill, shoot the breeze with everyone. Mainly, to just laugh with like minded friends.

As Derek said, everyone else is usually eating around the same time. It usually works out pretty good.

I can't wait to see you all, I'm looking forward to it very, very much!

I had no problem last year hanging out at both the Hard Rock and Max Lager's on the Friday and Saturday.

Bear in mind new attendees that most people do arrive on Thursdays (myself not included) so that night is a "get adjusted" (or maladjusted for some :D ) for people.

Also while some like the idea of hanging out at the Hyatt bar (not dissing those who do) I find the bar way too crowded to even approach, much less drink at and rest, and way too loud to converse in.

But then, I do HATE massive crowds.

Whoops, never intended to suggest it was time wasted. :)

So Brit guys... do your conventions shut down at 4pm for a proper tea? :)

Oh and hotel food actually winds up being far more expensive than a 1 or 2 block walk to the restaurants.

And forget about fast food. The time I wasted trying to grab food at McD's last year was anything but convenient.

But a hot tip I learned last year. Best food option for lunch is the coffee/sandwich place in the lobby of the Hilton. The mini pizzas they have plus a soda are definately worth it. And you don't waste time in line too much.

"Mardi Gras for Geeks" ... possibly the most succinct explanation of DragonCon I've ever heard, from someone who's never even been there no less! I've only been once, and I'm certain I'll be making every effort to be there every single year, from now on.

As for ruffled feathers - we've still got months to go, haha. I've seen a few spats (no pun intended) come and go on these boards. Hell, I was even in one of them. Each time things were smoothed over within days, if that long. There's no way any of us would let any of this keep any of you, our distinguished guests from across the Pond, from having the time of your lives in Atlanta.

I will be attending at least one of these, still working details with some friends in the Atlanta area to have a meet and greet with them also.
I am almost certain it will be one of the HR nights, and will be myself the wife and 2 boys. I should know more in couple weeks.

I'll be at all 3 because a) I'm not part of any other costuming group like this and b) nothing else is going on at dinner time that interests me (that I know of).
Plus no matter how many show up we always have a good time.

But yes D*Con is 24-7 and the UKCM'ers I'm sure will want to see as much as they can. But I do recommend coming to one as a group.....please??
It was just me representing the first year and had to bring Pete in as reinorcements for the last 2. Please?
Pretty please with a cherry?

C'mon Marines, just say "Yes Tony!!"

:)

I've said that I enjoy the camadarie at the restaurant, it recharges my batteries, etc.

But, I tried an experiment last DCon. I ate quality food.

Felt better. Didn't feel crappy from eating junk. Had more energy.
Could enjoy the Con more, and stay up and party much better...

:P :D 8)

In addition to the dinners, we also usually trek over to the Food Court, mildly freaking out the locals there, and eat some pretty good food that's affordable. I particularly like the mexican food place.

Breakfast is the toughest meal. That's usually lots of coffee and a muffin or two at Starbucks.

It's Mardi Gras for Geeks. It's one helluva blast! I cannot wait to party on with the Brits! You guys are going to walk around with INSANE GRINS!!! It's a costume sensory overload...yeahhhh, just you wait...

Booze at the bar is fun, sometimes though, booze from the local liquor store helps the wallet. Beer, Vodka, Rum and perhaps even a pint of Newcastle or two stashed in the room helps a whole lot...

by the way, you do all have challenge coins right?
