The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I already have the patches and I have the urban camo BDUs being shipped to me. I even purchased a BDU belt, so all I need left is the boots. I'm using the USCM uniform list as reference for what I need.

That makes a great starter costume, just need a weapon to finish it off. :)

I am building a pulse rifle from a resin cast, airsoft weapons, and electronic kit which I need to purchase.

OK I have a question,

I've noticed over the years that getting a pre registration at most conventions winds up taking a longer time since almost everyone does it now meaning the pre reg lineup is ridiculously long. I found that registering at the door actually cuts down on the waiting time.

Would this be a good strategy for this con?

When I did the Phoenix Cactus Comicons for 2006 and 2007, all I did was just buy the passes for the events. I don't think it would be the case for the DragonCon because of so many people that may perhaps attend.

cpl smith gets his pass at the con , and he usually gets it pretty quick although that regisrtation opens later , i always pre reg , and walk past everyone to the front of the line or the back of my line which is always short , the first year i stood in line for hours ,until i got close enough to see that there was no one in the p line , so now i always walk right up and jump to the back or front depending on how you look at it , and i havenr spent more than 20 minutes in reg since .this year we are going down on wed so we will be there early for reg

How exactly do you pre-register for the con?

I bookmarked the link for future use, Sergeant. Now I will need to see how future events go.

Just to let you know that current price ($80) won't stay at that, as the price goes up in stages the closer we get to the date of the Con.

You can also consider a theory that I've built up... You don't need a pass to stand around a hotel lobby. Unless you plan to go into a dealer room or a panel, you really don't need it.

Although this year it has to be noted that, at times and especially in the evenings you had to have either a room key or a Dcon pass to get into or even between the hotels!

A new policy that i can only see becoming more apparent 2011.

Just a heads up!

I'm waiting to see that happen. I never wear my pass anyway... never been asked for it. Only at the dealer room. If you really need to see the dealer room, come see me, I'll lend you mine.

We all get passes because we need them for the parade though.

That's the ribbon for the parade. I guess you don't need a show pass to be on the parade if you have a ribbon?

No- you need to have a valid membership pass in order to participate in the parade.

Personally I wouldn't try to pull an end-run around membership just because you want to save some money.

In the last three years or so the host hotels (Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton) have been terribly overcrowded due to college football games being played the same weekend. This leads to college students (mostly guys) who like to drink and party like they are immortal or tomorrow is doomsday.

You want to talk about riff-raff? These "people" are not even costumers/sci-fi lovers let alone having purchased Dragon Con memberships. They come in and act like drunken shitheads stirring up trouble to look as machismo as possible in front of their peers. Reminds me of the complete A-holes I used to hate with a vengence in highschool.

Rumour is it is the reason the hotels sell out so quickly. The football "fans" try to get the DCon discount code for rooms.

So this in turn has caused nothing but headaches for the host hotels' security. Bad enough dealing with generally passive costumers who are drunk let alone ramped up college jerks who have more testosterone than brains treating the place like one big frat party.

So I can see why security constantly asks for passes and room keys.

If you truly don't want to buy a pass, it's your call. But I would think your D-Con experience would suffer because of it.

Besides conducting a sweep of the con, does anybody know how to execute outdoor battle formations? Thought of asking because I haven't seen other Marines do any formations outdoors.
