The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I hope I am able to get the new Marine outfit set up before the event because I would like to participate. I'm not up for getting a room for it since I'll be more likely doing a normal bivouac just outside the location.

Have you been to the event before? :)

There are trees in the area. Maybe you could get a permit to build a treehouse? :)

You will get laid, or I'll kill you.

Here are the reasonable goals to achieve for DCon 11:

    1. Be present at the CMC Breakfast.
    2. Participate in the parade.
    3. Participate in the CMC raffle.
    4. Volunteer at least 3.1 continuous hours of time at the CMC fan table.
    5. Load up, drop in, kick ass.
    6. Have your photo taken with one of the following Marines (certain restrictions apply):
      a. Spat, while not performing some kind of lewd behaviour.
      b. Bruce Smith aka Bazfish, sober.
      c. "Airborne" Mike Muranetz, not smiling.
      d. SSgt Kevin Burton, with his arms covered.
      e. Sgt Dom Baldwin, not sneering.
      f. Sex Adams aka Hollis DZC, getting laid.
      g. All assembled recipients of the Most Valuable Marine award.

Goal's A. through G. have been scientifically proven to be impossible to achieve!

Well, I don't know where you get your science... but let's break it down:

a. This could be achieved in the wee hours of the morning. But once high noon strikes, your odds significantly decrease with each passing minute.
b. Because of the time difference, this fella's already at tea time at 10 in the morning... drinkin' time starts shortly after.
c. This is a tough one. I think I've seen only one photo ever that didn't feature his pearly whites.
d. Wait until he slips into his Dress Blues or his Admiral's uniform.
e. Catch me doing my Benny Hill impression... best moment.
f. Look for a sock on his doorknob.
g. Highly probable in the morning before the parade and then at the dinner.

I've never been to the DragonCon. I hope to build the pulse rifle, dye the urban BDU outfit, and gather up the armor before the event. Plus, I'll need to get flight tickets and con passes.

im just curious on how much you guys spend on hotels for your time there.

if someone would like to give me a figure I might have a more unique and less costly option.

That depends on a few factors;

Willing to share a room?
Want to stay in one of the event hotels?
Or stay in one of the outer hotels?

Okay, well Atlanta is a large urban area, with (afaik) no camping areas within the city limits, so you'll have to travel a fair distance every day, which I don't recommend, as the nightlife in the hotels is what D*Con is all about, then crashing in your hotel bed for a few hours before starting all over again. :)

Plus I don't drive, so I might need to hitch a ride from someone out of state that's also going to the con.

The best option for you (imho) is to watch what others are doing travel-wise to see who's route passes nearest to you (you don't say which state you're in ), also sharing a room at one of the hotels, as that's definitely the best thing to do. :)

Peppler, post which state you are in so you can gauge if anyone is coming through your area.

Hotels are the only real option for the convention....either that or sleeping in your car and I don't recommend that....all though Richie did one year.

Okay, so, best bet is if any Californians are heading east. Not sure how many we have there, so hopefully they'll speak up. :)

That's one thing that should go on when CMs meet up before the con: They should have something on that symbolizes that they are of the group. I would do so if it was up to me.

I'm just concerned of going to this because of the time I need to get the armor. Plus budget issues.
