The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

With Valet parking a hotel staff member parks your car for you. And yes even if your car sits there all weekend not moving once, you pay $28 a night.

"Self park" literaly means you park your own car, carry your own bags in etc (at least "I" carry my own bags in as I'm too damn cheap to tip some schmuck $10 to carry them for me). I believe self parking might be $21 a night. I also think it's usually the first spots to fill up.

One thing I've had to teach myself when "self parking" is to remember what level and which section I parked in; I nearly couldn't find my car one year as I didn't bother to "remember where I parked".

May I suggest making sire to aim for the hotel lots than other cheaper places. We didn't know better and I think most know the ordeal faced my first year in 2006 - tl;dr version truck stolen first night, found when we where 2 hours north of Atlanta and cost $800 US cash to get it roadworthy again. On our last night there I witnessed the immediate aftermath of a suicide attempt, so it kinda put my losses into perspective.

I digress. Look up lot options, I know there's one with a gated entry that only allows departures during business hours, the downside was that our friend's car was covered in pigeon crap - but it was still there ;)

Yeah I parked outside down Peachtree Street for maybe a couple of years (2003-2004) until they didn't allow overnight privileges; I parked in the hotel parking from then on.

I was pretty nervous about my car being broken into the whole time I used the outside lots. But damn was it cheaper to park outside!

Don't worry Rex, rooms always sell out this early....they WILL become available again.

If anyone has a room and needs to cancel it - DON'T!!!
Post here first and hopefully transfer it to another member.

Rex, I'm still on board if/when a room becomes available at the Hyatt, or wherever. I'm booking flights to USA this weekend. Looks like I'll be traveling solo next DCon, which should make things easier as far as sleeping arrangements, etc. are concerned. Please gimme a holler if anything becomes available. Thanks, bro!

Im going to do my best to be at Dcon this year and want to be apart of the USCM action.

Is there a major objective that needs to be accomplished?

BTW, does anyone have good blueprint of the APC exterior?
I really want to contribute by putting together a fullsize APC to roll in the parade. Most likely a float style and itll be a shell probably built around my 86 ford escort but if I do it right, it will look bad ass with the troops.

Thoughts?

Not many detailed drawings available easily, but here's a couple of links you might like:

http://www.chronofus.net/wargames/aliens/halcyon.htm (click on the Smoky Sprue link to get a pic of the model kit instruction sheet)

Also, this large build might give you ideas:

Doesn't everyone? We're an awesome bunch.....that's right...I'm blowing the trumpet :)

milkshake wrote:

Well.....obviously a costume...but honestly that's mainly for you.
No one should do a Dragon Con without a costume unless you have a purpose to be there (filming, interviewing etc) because I can tell you as soon as you get there without a costume you'll wish you had one.

There are plenty of photo's available, but blueprints......didn't Harry have some?
Drop me a PM as I have a lot of APC archived photo's that may help you.
But for something of this size I'd say you'll want to make it as screen accurate as possible.
You don't want to go half arsed at something like this....its all in or nothing.
Would you be able to stow it all in the truck and then build in a short amount of time the morning of the parade?
Think of the limits you have and what options are available for you.

as for the objective, I was meanin, Is there some sort of specific group goal to reach.
Of course a costume, Ive been to a few cons without one.

and with the APC build, deffinately not going to be a half assed attempt. I wouldnt dare bring it unless it was damn near believable as the real thing.
I searched extensivly on the blueprints, found nothing so i was hoping someone here had leads on them

I have contacted HARRY on a PM last week, but havnt heard back yet on the actual blueprints.

Im pretty confident I can do it without actual sizes but I really want to be as exact as possible. So any help is going to be very appreciated

that model link ive seen before, AMAZING ! ! ! !

but logistics for bringing it down I got covered. I have the ability to transport anything anywhere anytime and store it.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, cos I'm still not sure what you mean?

If you're planning to attend D*Con as an Alien Legacy character, just post in one of the threads nearer the time that you're attending, read up on where our fan table will be (and any other timetable stuff), then just turn up and say "Hi!" :)

Objective is to meet up with people, get to know them and have a good time; Optionally, if the feeling grabs you or if it's your sort of thing, you can also either dress up as a character from the Alien films or get drunk; or both at the same time!

Yes:

Some juicy Atlanta Colonist's daughters we have to rescue from their virginity!

No seriously we all have to get laid this year if it kills us.

Okay I'm joking.

The only real "goal" is to have fun! Whether participating in the annual Parade, Colony Sweep, or various "after hours" events. 8)

You will get laid, or I'll kill you.

Here are the reasonable goals to achieve for DCon 11:

    1. Be present at the CMC Breakfast.
    2. Participate in the parade.
    3. Participate in the CMC raffle.
    4. Volunteer at least 3.1 continuous hours of time at the CMC fan table.
    5. Load up, drop in, kick ass.
    6. Have your photo taken with one of the following Marines (certain restrictions apply):
      a. Spat, while not performing some kind of lewd behaviour.
      b. Bruce Smith aka Bazfish, sober.
      c. "Airborne" Mike Muranetz, not smiling.
      d. SSgt Kevin Burton, with his arms covered.
      e. Sgt Dom Baldwin, not sneering.
      f. Sex Adams aka Hollis DZC, getting laid.
      g. All assembled recipients of the Most Valuable Marine award.
