The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Late this summer, I was planning on pulling up anchor, and setting up amidst the endless lights and blazing guns of the Big Apple. (To join some friends that moved there at the beginning of the year)

Like most plans, this has gone horribly awry. I lost my job at the post office. This puts me in a difficult situation. I can either look for a new job here, and put off moving for who knows how long, or I can go for broke, and move right now.

I've chosen the latter, so I'll now be moving in 10 days. This is a gamble the likes of which I try not to think about. I'm taking my last paychecks, and hoping for the best. It's pretty nerve-racking, but also exciting. Like I'm finally having a real adventure.

Anyway, that's my life update, friends.

Very often the only way to go. Scary but open to all sorts of opportunities. May it all work out very well, especially with the job

Moving is always a frighteningly exciting time, especially when its a 'now or never' thing

I will be in NY from the 3rd to the 5th working Fangorias weekend of horrors.
If you want to give a run by, I will throw a wristband on ya so you can spend the day at the con for free. just PM me that you want to go, and then at the event ask to see Tammy

Don't worry! New York is the friendliest city on Earth! And it's now completely safe since they made murder illegal.

You'll be fine!

Let me know when you get here, and I'll add you to the list for invites to my BBQ's.

So! Having spent all of 5 hours in the Big Apple, all I have to say is this:

New York is infested with cats.

Seriously. Cats everywhere.

Other than that, my room is much smaller than anticipated, and my roommates much poorer. Even so, I'm still very optimistic about what this all means for me. I hope to be working, and sidestepping crack dealers just like a real New Yorker in no time at all.

I'll be in that neighbourhood on June 13... anything happening in the Big Apple that may motivate the wearing of Marine uniforms?

Spectre? Spat?

Sadly, all of my costumes and props had to remain behind.

I'll have everything for D*Con though.

Stay positive and remember why you moved there :)

Cherie and I moved to OKC with less than $1000 behind us and only just made it the first few months......but it pays off.

And just think, it'll be so much easier for you to come hang out with the MD crew, too, since you're only four hours away!

Best of luck to you Av :D

I did something similar (although I imagine the distance wasn't quite so great) when I moved to London 4 years ago. Completely went for it; gave up my old job and so on and have never looked back.

I had the same thing in '05 when my business went up the creek - Strange town, no job, no money and lots of rent owing.

There's always work somewhere, dude. You just gotta be prepared to do almost anything to tide you over, be it Data Entry, garbage disposal or waiting tables.

Luckily in the current climate most employers understand all the lay-offs and so it shouldn't impact your Resume at all during interviews.

Best of luck to ya and do keep us up to date with how you're getting on.
If you need somewhere to talk, we'll be here with a beer!!

Best of success Av!

Keep an eye out for a big spotlight in the sky shaped like a Bat. For some strange reason Gotham City resembles New York.

D'oh.

I flew up here, and was far too poor to pay to check all those boxes my gear is in. :(

You can still come to Big Apple next week. It's a free admission show, and you don't have to be in costume.

Having been here over a month it...... looks like I may have made a horrible horrible decision.

Finding a job has been an absolute nightmare. I'm now several hundred dollars in debt, and the near future is looking less than promising. It's starting to seem like I may have to run back to Florida with my tail between my legs and my wallet empty.

One way or the other, DragonCon being a mere 7 weeks away is swiftly looking like an impossibility. I will not count myself out just yet, but I'm not nearly as confident as I'd like to be.

I'm sorry to hear the change has been....well less than positive.
But you did it, you tried and no one can say otherwise.......and that's great.

Get yourself back on your feet financially, dust yourself off and look to the future......its still bright :)
