The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was lucky enough to nab a Hyatt room so Power Loader is GO!!

I still have 2 rooms booked in an off-site a short drive up the highway.
If come closer to the convention someone needs those they'll be available for transfer.

Just wasted an hour of my life trying to book at the Marriott. You'd think they would anticipate the volume of people and have a goddam website that can handle the traffic.

Additional efforts:

This is the guidance I got from Marriott. Many reservations are made in haste. People sometimes cancel due to having a 'friend' already got them a room or they can't get specific dates at whatever rate, or any etc. bs excuse.
Anywhoo... at ANY time rooms can come up available at random! This is happening at this VERY MOMENT. The rep on the phone told me she saw rooms come up, but tried to get me in. They would disappear as fast as they would appear. So there are people out there getting the rooms, either online or on phone.

SO DON'T GIVE UP! Keep trying online (refresh, refresh, refresh) and keep calling all through the day and in the next few days. You might get lucky!!
And... quite honestly, its your only hope. For now.

Good luck fellow marines.

I second this!

A friend of ours who already booked a room did this on our behalf with success. Pretty much every time I refresh the page new information pops up. Cards get declined, folks cancel...don't give up just yet!

And I'm at the same place with Gemma. $36 cheaper per night with complimentary breakfast, less than ½ a mile away.

Are the overflow hotels sold out also?

If anyone knows of one please post the names so those without rooms can get as close as possible.

If you secure a room, I'll be there... Battle-Buddy! If you give up then I guess I'll be begging for floor space.

Fellow marines. As I mentioned in my earlier post, DON'T GIVE UP. You should make it a daily routine of keeping the Marriott (and other hotels) booking website open on your computer. Rooms will at random become open. Persistance, timing and little luck are key. However, you might get stuck with the regular rate (over $300 per nite), but if you divide that up between 4 or 5 people, its not that bad. No one wants to stagger down the street for 2 or 3 blocks late at night to get back to their room. Just be persistant and keep trying. Even just one of us succeeding will get a few more fellow marines into a hotel.

To any of you that manage to secure a room and need battle-buddies, PLEASE post here. I'm sure you'll have no problem filling your room.

Marines, we have our mission.

Thanks, Tony. Your suggestions are encouraging when things have been looking rather bleak of late. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near a computer most of the time due to my job. And when I am, I simply don't have the time (or patience) to do as you suggest, so I'm pretty much dependent on the kindness of my friends here to find a room at one of the big hotels that I can share the costs with again next summer. Hopefully things will work out favorably in the not too distant future... I'd hate to miss the con two years in a row. :(
