With regards to the "value" of the table, I think having a safe spot to rest your gear for a bit is a godsend - especially for those of us wearing 50 lbs of gear

The table's always served as both a solid meeting point and a place to show off the props we've all worked so hard on, with less risk of them being pawed over/trod upon/stolen/etc. There's just something about stuff being on or behind a clearly marked group table that makes people much more likely to treat our stuff with respect.
'Course, there's always a few assholes around, but then they'd have been that way with or without a table.
Either way... I'm glad we've got a table, still. I'm sad to hear the display won't be there, (mostly because you put so much work into that, Derek, and it deserves to be showed off), but if that's what we gotta do in order for friends to have a place to rest their stuff, then so be it.
