The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well...problems are coming about with Fan Tables this year...as you all know, we linked tables with the Ghostbusters Fans and GBTV last year, and it worked out perfectly. Now, as a few of us were trying to secure the table this year for the GBFans, we received a letter stating that there are NO MORE TABLES available. They are not even taking a "stand by" list anymore for the Sheraton because the DC director is planning on using that space instead of using it for Fan Tables like last year...meaning that at present there are only 20 fan tables on the list..and those are going to be at the Hyatt like last year. The Marines were fortunate enough to be on the Hyatt list...and from what I've gathered, the Hyatt tables will be the ONLY tables this year, as they have no other places to put fan tables.
Now, with such limited space this year and the success we had last year being grouped together, we are going to share our table with the GBFans group. At the moment, I do not plan on bringing the display this year...again, it's a space issue.
Basically over the years we only use the fan table as more of a meet point and a place to stow weapons...which we can still do. I have talked to Tony and a few others and we think this is best for both groups...Why is it best for us you ask?...Well, this year we can actually have our dinner at a decent hour, because we wont have to stay at the table until 8pm. Also, we are going to be missing ALOT of Marines this year due to different circumstances...which means EVERYONE would have to pull shifts. This way, we wouldn't have to. We are planning on getting a dual banner with both fan sites on it also...this way, no one group would overshow the other. Also, if DC gives us any problems about sharing, we could say we are a "Sigourney Weaver Fan Group" and that would cover both groups.

I hope you do not consider this as an invasion of our territory...we want everyone in both groups to have a great time, even though DC is throwing a wrench in things.

Please feel free to add input...I'm really working hard to make sure we all have fun this year..

Derek

Sounds like an excellent solution Derek.

Regarding attendance, I certainly hope everyone's saving their pennies for next year. We need to make it big.

Derek and I talked at length about this- manning the fan table for hours at a time causes one to miss the rest of DCon- Staying there until 8, means our dinner starts at 9, doesn't get over until 10:30, etc.

I'm for whatever it takes for our Marines to enjoy themselves at DCon.

Let's look forward to the Parade and our Colony Sweep! But most of all the friendship and camaradarie of the Colonial Marines! :delta: :delta:

Can we quantify the value of our table? Has it been instrumental to gaining more members? What will happen if it is not manned past 19H00?

The table will have someone watching it at all times..whether its a Marine or. GB...that way DC doesnt make a stink. The GB guys have agreed to stay while we do our dinner.

I'm fine sharing the table....seems I missed an awesome display of camaraderie last year with the GB guys.

I must say I'm a little perturbed with DC and their decisions regarding the fan tables....I shall investigate!!

--edit--
Thanks Dom....serves me right for rushing a reply!!

Not that I'm going to be there, but it sounds like a good idea. Seems win/win.

With regards to the "value" of the table, I think having a safe spot to rest your gear for a bit is a godsend - especially for those of us wearing 50 lbs of gear ;) The table's always served as both a solid meeting point and a place to show off the props we've all worked so hard on, with less risk of them being pawed over/trod upon/stolen/etc. There's just something about stuff being on or behind a clearly marked group table that makes people much more likely to treat our stuff with respect.

'Course, there's always a few assholes around, but then they'd have been that way with or without a table.

Either way... I'm glad we've got a table, still. I'm sad to hear the display won't be there, (mostly because you put so much work into that, Derek, and it deserves to be showed off), but if that's what we gotta do in order for friends to have a place to rest their stuff, then so be it.
