The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Anubian, it's a "LS45 Laser Aiming System" that was produced by Imatronic Ltd in the UK.

There was a great article about the 45 longslide with Lasersight. I think Arnold had a car battery under his coat to power it. Funny that you can buy a laser keychain for $5 now.

No worries Anubian

They turn up occasionally on Gunbroker in the US, I know of one for sale in the UK - but they are asking £550 for it!

Congrats Anubian, I picked one up myself last week for peanuts, currently evaluating it for full on multipart moulding.

The very first movie/TV show to use a laser sight was the British 70's show The Professionals.

Useless trivia 101... ;)

I think it was a helium-neon Laser-Lok SC100 sight in the episode "Hunter/Hunted".

If I remember rightly they dressed an AR10 with a drum or pan magazine to make it resemble an American 180.

The latter was being marketed with a laser sight around the time (79/80) for law enforcement as the American 180 System by Charles Goff of American International Corp.

Useless trivia - One of Simon Atherton's first armoury gigs was on "The Professionals"

I'm always amazed at how far technology comes in a short period of time.

First cell phone I had was in a bag with a cord attached to the handset. Now I have a phone only slightly larger than a credit card, and I can surf the web on it too.

Old school tech is still retro-cool. :)

Congrats on scoring the laser Brian!

Wow it's an actual H/N laser? I have one of those I bought in the 80s but it's huge. Like 24 inches long.

*Hijack*

Since we have so many experts... can anyone ID the red dot sight on this rifle?

Russ...I'm 'not an authority on anything'

I 'think' the reddot/reflex sights on the 'Deep Rising' Calicos are either mockups or a dressed item.

They don't remind me of any widely available reddot, when I get time I'll look into it.

A family friend was the DOP on that film...

Someone on the RPF said its a 'ADCO square shooter' red dot sight. Google seems to bear this out.

Cheers Sidewinder :D

The "Square Shooter" was apparently popular mounted on paintball markers.

Seemingly ADCO have replaced it with 2 models - the "Vision 2000" and the "Square Shooter 2"

Although this place may still have some original "Square Shooters" available for $45.
