The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On June 17th 2010 I will be walking the entire length of Hadrian's Wall from Bowness on Solway to Segedunum in Wallsend in aid of HELP FOR HEROES, completing the entire 84 mile journey within 24 hours.

HELP FOR HEROES is a support charity for wounded service men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, ordinary people doing an extra ordinary task and in many cases having to live the rest of their lives with the consequences of their sacrifice. This is for the real warriors, the real heroes. The men and women who give more than anybody ever asks and ask little in return. Please give generously and help me to help them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

84 miles!?!

That's 135 kilometres!

Dammit, it's a Tuesday.
I was gonna suggest we try to join Iain for part of the walk in armour, if he'd like that ( good photo op ;) ).

Well, in context:
6 months (or 18 months if you're joing 21 or 23) of this kind of stuff day in, day out before you even get to the Endurance bit. Then:

Bed at 2am, up at 4.
40 miles in a maximum of 20 hours, over the Brecon Beacons. Map and compass only. You get told the RV grid reference once and off you go. No idea how far the next one is or how far you have left.
Carrying webbing, rifle (no sling) and 55lb Bergen.

Ian will have to maintain at least 3.5mph continuously to manage it in 24hrs.
It's easier for us long-legged types, but add in rest stops....

This is gonna be a serious feat!!

Depending on when & where he's scheduled to finish, perhaps meet him at the end... with food, drink, beers and a Laurel & Hearty Handshake?

WTF, though?
The Sulaco's about 1260 feet, and the Hadrian's Wall is a smaller ship.
Not really much of an achievement really, 24 hours to walk the length of about three football pitches, is it?

;)

We need to get the word out!

I've posted about it on Twitter and Facebook (including Abe's fan page: http://www.facebook.com/abethealien ), and I've posted on Hunters Lair.

Anyone got any other ideas? Get to it people!

Just got a message from Ian :)

Quote:
Hi Steve,
I can just see Alien's, Predators and Marines on Newcastle Quayside as we come through on the last legs! Early days of planning yet, let me know how many people fancy a jaunt to the North East and I'll keep you posted on planning. Many thanks to the UKCM guys for getting my fund raising started with a bang!

Ian
