So, yeah, my friend's birthday was last week, and I took the opportunity to go ahead with my idea of a sci-fi-themed dinner. Spent some time and energy planning and cooking, in cooperation with his wife, and we turned out something that looked like that:
I'll describe everything, give more detailed pictures and recipes if people want them, but first I want to see if you guys can name the dishes and where they came from. Go! Closer general pictures:

It's Hasparat, duh! Yeah, I really dug the cornbread in the helmet too, haha. I'm a huge Firefly fan also, so props on the strawberries in a box and the "Blue Sun" logos on the chinese take-out boxes! |

Wow! Geek points for you, I had to go look that up in my ST Encyclopedia. So skinny, funky nosed freedom fighters enjoy burritos for their low-carb aspect? |

If I remember right, it's like a wrap of sorts that's marinated in some kind of spicy brine. Sounds tasty, anyway. What are those small containers in the center, though? I can't really see them all that well, but they look like packages of peanuts or beans or something? |

As a Klingon chef I know I make it out of shrimp flavored Ramen with red food coloring. Tell us how you made it please! |

Gah! Sorry guys, didn't mean to leave you hanging, but my home internet (actually my home phone line) died yesterday and is still not up. Eircom wankers... Anyways. Yeah, from the left, we have Chinese take-out boxes with Blue Sun logo, and strawberries-in-a-box (Firefly), blue milk (Star Wars), Gagh and Hasperat sandwiches (Star Trek), one pitcher of "Spice beer" (Dune), Slurm and Bachelor Chow (Futurama), Corn Bread (Aliens), Soylent Green, and Lembas (Lord of the Rings). Kudos to the lot of you geeks! Bachelor Chow was indeed just peanuts in a jar with a sticker on it. The Gagh was simply rice noodles with red food colouring. The Hasperat (Hasparat?) was my vegetarian offering - hummus, cucumber and carrots marinated in soy sauce and rice vinegar, jalapenos and baby spinach, in a wrap. Quite tasty, although not nearly as spicy as it's supposed to be! There are three things missing from that table: Kim (my friend's wife) made some Bao (Firefly) - and OMGTASTY! is all I can say about it before my mouth becomes flooded with saliva again And finally, Ash, yes, I did make the flesh worm - with a twist. Someone call Gareth to this page please!
Roasted Chestburster "a la Coloniale". Detail of the jaw:
Pictures are not of the same quality as the others - Kim refused to go near it, too gross, and her replacement behind the camera was well toasted by then, sorry! Anyways, for a full account of the evening, with (some) recipes or links and all, go and check: http://www.grumpyfrenchman.net/?p=93. It's my blog, more pictures and details. Yeah, kind of a self-plug, but hey - took me a while to write it, might as well use it, right? Thanks for the nice comments anyways, it's cool to know there are people out there who appreciate this kind of geekery! |

You mean to say that Soylent Green isn't suitable for vegetarians?! Great Job! |

G, I'm French. I've eaten duck, duckling, chicks, rabbit, veal, lamb, piglet, beaver, myocastor coypu, deer, antilope, kangaroo, dog and cat. NOTHING is too cute to eat. And no, soylent green isn't suitable for vegetarians. I mean, it's made of Krill, innit? Animal plancton? Right? (And ours had cheese in it). |

Urgh... Personal favour Sarge, please? Don't call me Jeremy - I absolutely hate that name (my apologies to all Jeremies here, it's only when applied to me). Aside from that, thanks a lot! |

No problem - I have a few people here who have taken the habit of calling me Jeremy (which I suppose would be an anglicised version of Jerome) so I thought maybe you were doing the same. Simple bad memory is actually better! When in doubt, Frenchy or Grumpy will do. |
