The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

hey Marines, in kind of a pickle here. i need something for a class speech i have to give: a type 2 star trek phaser (AKA a "cobra" phaser), but i need to get it for literally next to nothing (or nothing). i've seen the electronic ones, and that seems to fit the bill, but i dont have the 60-80 some bucks to order one...anybody have any ideas?
it needs ot be very sturdy, as i will most likely drop it, and will be traveling with it. also, a belt clip is semi-important.

Playmates did a nice one. I don't think it came apart like the new ones do... they should be cheaper.

No... the Playmates one shouldn't be $60. The Art Asylum one might be. I was just at a con and could have gotten the Playmates roleplay props for $20 each.

I've got that Playmates TNG phaser I'd be willing to let go.

DSB- I don't mean to upstage you or anything.

Maverick- how fast do you need this?

I've got a Playmates TNG phaser (the first one they made). It still works, and has a belt clip.

I'll let you have it for nothing. It's just sitting in my garage doing a whole lot of nothing (I've got a few more phasers anyway  ). Just PM me your address and it's yours.

Only thing is- because I'm in Canada it may take as much as three weeks to arrive with regular mail (average is 14 days). But if you are not in a hurry like I said it's yours. I can have it in the mail by Monday at the latest.

Kev, it's cool. I'm not even sure where mine is....well, I know where it is, but it's in one of many boxes in our garage. Sounds like you can get yours ready to go faster than me.

Whichever way Maverick decideds to go is fine by me. :)

well, DSB, how fast yours can be at my house is the question...
where are you located? im sure your in the US, but where? and another question is: how much you want for it? ive already PM'ed Kevin, but im not sure when i might need it, so as a back up plan, ill see how fast you could get it here...

Strangely, that brings back memories.

I won one of those in a raffle at a comicbook convention back in the early 90's. Although I did enjoy Star Trek, I didn't much care for the plasticy props that Playmates put out. The very next day I took it to Target -- and without a receipt, they gave me something like $13.71 for it.

Of course I then promptly stopped off at my favorite comicbook store and spent it all on Valiant comics.

So Maverick -- what sort of a speech requires a Type 2 Star Trek phaser? Just curious.

Mav, I'm in the U.S., MO to be exact.

As for money, I don't think it's really worth much. Pay for your choice of shipping and it's yours?

one about Future weapons (not the Discovery Channel show) where one of them is referred to by the company as a "Star Trek hand-held phaser set on stun".

and DSB, how about shipping COD? send it whatever your basic otion is, and ill pay COD for shipping.

Am I the only one screaming 'PULSE RIFLE' here? <lol>

I'd have loved to do a project on this back in school.
But no, had to be Shakespeare or Steinbeck :(

i would, but i dont have a PR, and i probably cant get one in time anyways. between no money and not knowing for sure when i need it. as it is, my teacher wants me to use a lightsaber, which i cant even get one of the $6.88 ones at Wal-mart right now. again, no money.

alright, it annoys me, but i need a different phaser...

at this past weekends tournament, i found that the one Kev sent me causes hand cramps, because of the straight handle (not that i dont appreciate the effort  ). after a while, it gets very irritating...

so, what i'm asking is: does any body have a playmates First Contact or later (basically, i need a curved handle) phaser that they would let go for relatively cheap?

I *might* have the FC phaser somewhere still. It would be awhile before I found it though.

The resin prop assault one's pop up on ebay every so often, though you usually have to assemble them and paint them, but it isn't too hard.
