Post subject:  Children Of Men!
Well, I finally did it...

Bought my first set of CoM BDUs which arrived today, so naturally had to throw them on and get soime pictures. Now I just need to get it all fitted, straps taped, bigger boots, pouches filled, patches added, goggles on the helmet and grab me an L85... Awesome!

Any other CoM troops kicking about?

Trevor Steedman is in it as a stuntman. I think I spotted him near the end of the film, but would need to ask him to confirm. 8)

I just saw it. not bad. pretty dark and gloomy.
I thought the soldiers carried XM-8's unless I am confusing it with another movie. Anyone else see the XM-8?

I never saw the movie, but the XM8 was supposed to be the next rifle of the US Army. Unfortunately, it got bogged down in Washington, and there were several people against it from the start.
And thus a promising future weapon went down the drain and will not see the light of day. [/hijack]

Of course, we can stick with our airsoft versions. :)

That's a pretty cool costume however, I have to say this:


Childre of Men was a brilliant movie and one of my favorites. Even the book is good.

CoM was touted as being the new Blade Runner. I didn't see the similarity myself except they were both darn good flicks set in grim futures.

Definately dark and gritty cinema. I can appreciate the comparison to Blade Runner, even if I don't agree with it.

I thought it was worth watching once anyway.

Although not strictly sci-fi in the traditional sense, it's 'biology-fi' and biology is considered by many to be a science, so it kinda fits. :D

Anyway, it's a stupendous movie and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Clive Owen pulls off a brilliant character; I doubt he'll top the performance he gives in this movie.

PVB, I had no idea Trev was a stuntman in CoM either, awesome spot mate! :)

As far as weapons from the movie go, definitely spotted some XM8s in there, some L85A1s, some G36s, possibly a LAW but I couldn't be sure... The troops in the film being mostly the British Army in the future, I'd presume L85A2s would be suitable, plus some Diemacos and M249s...

I've toyed with the idea of a CoM cossie.One of my buds in the UKG has one ,and gotta say i like it alot.Looks so much comfier than the Smartgun rig.
Film is great,very cheerful :D

That is a great costume Sixty. I love the camouflage. :D
And agreed with all, a great movie.

It's much darker than blade runner and I don't see the comparisons
myself. By the way, if you haven't seen the new Blade Runner cut
I recommend you do so.

If you like Clive Owen's performance in CoM you need to see Croupier.
I think that's a Mike Figgis film which is another reason to see it.
Third reason? It's an unusual and interesting movie.

Been a huge COM fan since it came out.
The book is very different to the movie but also a fantastic read.

And if great storyline isn't enough for you, there are two jaw-dropping set piece action scenes in the film, more notably the scene in which these uniforms ( and Trev ) are best seen.

Buy the DVD.

( Oh yeah, and I have a set or two of COM gear as well. So does Pete Fal Bowden - Except he was jammy enough to have him with him when we realised about Trev and his leetle tank, so his is signed. )

It's comfortable, but gets a bit toasty when running about in it... It's not quite as 'breathable' as issue kit is!

I'll look up Croupier, see if I can rent it from Lovefilm, need something to watch on the early shift.

Two more UKCMs with CoM gear eh? Might need to actually bring this kit to Atlanta... Brit invasion and all that. :)

Well, I have four sets so we could concievably get a pretty good squad going :)
I just like my UKCM armour too much when out costuming, though.

I wear COM gear when marshalling at S8.
I second the motion on side pockets.

Waaay to go Sixty.

I was going to say you should have "Liberated" Pete`s set at the NSC of you wanted a set :D HAHAHAHA

The digipat looks pretty sweet on these,most certainly when you see them in the flesh (as it were).

I`d say either a G36 or L85A2 & AG36-UGL for either (well added firepower & all that ;) ) would round out that cossie :D

I've just got hold of an L85A1, mainly because I like them with their crappy old bolt handles, but also because it was cheap... :p

I couldn't possibly liberate someone else's set; this is my first ever screen used prop, it's kinda special to me!

The background rifles used at the end of the film were cheap springer L85A1s, for the record. The L85A2 had yet to be replicated at the time and was only half-way through military distribution.

So in reality now with what Pete`s just said about background L85A1s,your even MORE SU accurate now :D

Again very nice mate,maybe the next major get together of UKCM folk,we should drum up a MoC MoD section :D

Ya, I'd spotted the A1s in there, figured with a 'screen accurate' set of combats I'd be best off getting the right rifle... Just try and make me put a SUSAT on there though, just try it! :x

No need to apologise Jason, I suppose I could just nick his helmet cover eh? :p
