(Well Russ put up his SST uniform so I figured it wasn't too off topic  ).

I've been wanting to do this uniform pretty much since seeing Anubian's at D-Con a couple of years ago (was it '04?).

Image

So about a year ago I found a 3/4 long ski jacket that was a nice blue/gray colour with some interesting pockets on it. And I thought "Hey this would make a great base for a T2 soldier!". So I grabbed it up.

Image

(I realize that Reese's jacket is a gray version of a WWII tanker jacket- however this would be for a generic T2 Resistance soldier and not a Reese impression).

A year of procrastination goes by.

During that year I bought a pair of pants to match... but I lost 25lbs since last Halloween and now they don't fit.  (I also found a decent "Castro" style cap in that blue/gray colour).

So today in Walmart I see a better pair of matching pants in my size... This finally gave me the inspiration to finish this costume once and for all! :D

Right now I'm working on what I feel is the most challenging part of the costume- adding the "anti-radiation" material to the jacket (which can be partly seen over Reese's shoulder in the pic above). I found some decent looking material at a local fabric shop. Unfortunately the quilted pattern isn't the same (it's a basic square pattern instead of the distinctive wavy lines the screenused one had).

Anyway I tell the clerk I need about a yard of the stuff. She cuts it... then tells me, "You do know this is $32.99 a yard?"

I tell her, "No I didn't, but I'll take it anyway."

Image

So right now I've cut a large square of the stuff and am hemming some of the ends. I then have to cut it so it will go up over the right shoulder, around the collar and a third down the back as one piece. Needless to say this is one of the more ambitious sewing projects I've undertaken...

But I've got plenty of this stuff to spare if I foul it up.

So other than the jacket, I have to scratch make the leg guards (which look like they are just cut layers of black vinyl- which I have plenty of from another project). The gun will be my Longshot with the nose section removed. Just have to grab some dust goggles and a couple of gray pouches and I'll be good to go!

I figure I'll have this done in time for Halloween (however I still haven't decided if I'm going to go out as this, or my Robin- the weather that night will probably be the deciding factor! ).

Progress pics to come as they happen.

Great project Kev. Looking forwards to see where this goes.

They’ve got some reference pictures on PSoL for ideas.

Awesome idea Kev! If you want ideas on the other equipment Reese/others were carrying, check out the HT Reese figure. One of the things he carries is a gas mask of some sort.

Those leg guards, I saw the exact same thing once in sportsmansguide.com, but that was years ago. The quilted fabric over the shoulder, that looks like either carpet padding or one of those large heavy blankets movers use to protect furniture.

Lately I've been toying with the thought of making one of those thermal charges Reese and friend lobbed at the HK tank. Please keep us updated on your progress!

Rock on, Kev. :D

I got to watch T1 in HD on a 60" plasma Sunday night. It's prettier than before and they've tweaked a few sound effects. As for the shoulder piece, I've always thought that was extra padding for the rifles.

AH HA! I knew I remembered something funny about this costume and Aliens.

The headset Reese wears is the exact same one used by the smartgunners in Aliens!!!!

Thanks for the support guys! Much appreciated!

DSB- thanks for the advice! In fact I have been looking at the Hot Toys figure as it is a great reference (especially for things not so clearly seen like the leg guards).

DOH!! I wish I had started this thread before buying that quilted material!

Oh well... I've got it now.

That would make sense too. But the material covers almost half the back of Reese's jacket which leads me to believe it is more than just padding. I can't remember where I heard it referred to as anti-rad material- however they do cover the walls of their bunker with this stuff as well:

Image

Maybe it's supposed to mask your IF signature against HKs?

So I guess a Racal set should be ok too?

Now for an update! :D

Today was my day off- so I went to a surplus store and picked up a set of US dust/wind goggles (MY EYES!! ZEE GOGGLES DO NOSSING!!) Sorry I just had to.

I also picked up some old pouches, a gas mask bag, and a web belt with an old metal clasp. The pouches are dark green- but I'm going to repaint them gray with fabric paint. Same goes for the gas mask bag.

So here's where I'm at so far:

Thanks again guys! :D

AHA! I knew I had seen that stuff before, but that picture of the stuff on the walls made me remember.

I'm pretty sure those are quilted moving blankets that you use to protect floors and stuff when you move furniture and the like.

EDIT: Oh snap. I just read DSB's post above, which i'm basically just echoing right now. Oh well. I thought I was helping.
Nice Longshot, Kev.

Kev, that Racal goes well with your overall outfit, go for it.
And that Nerf longshot REALLY fits in well with the mythos! Looks like a hybrid resistance/Terminator weapon (the clip in the back looks like the one on the plasma rifles the Terminators carry).

I've tried searching around, but not finding an exact match on the leg guards. I started up a thread on the RPF to see what people there might know.

You rock Kev!! I remember talking with you about this last year, glad to see you pullin' it off!!

Lookin' badddd-aassss brother! Is it coming to DCon with you?

Thanks again guys!

DSB- thanks for asking on the RPF- let me know if you hear anything. However this late in the game (Halloween parties start Oct 27th), any info provided to me I will probably use as a reference. It will be too late to buy anything and hope it gets here in time.

I'm probably going to make the leg guards out of vinyl with nylon straps- it might look good being homemade... keeping with the theme of the resistance using whatever they can find.

Really wish I had waited before buying that quited padding.

I LOVE THE LONGSHOT TOO! :D

Soon as I saw it without the nose section I immediatedly thought "40W Endo Rifle" (maybe this one's a 42   ).

So what I'm thinking of doing is adding some steel highlights... Like A LOT of steel highlights! So much that the gun is more steel than black! I think it will greatly look like a Plasma rifle then. :D

Thanks Bro! I'd like to say it will- but most likely no. Next D-con I'll have all my USCM gear (including a set Dress Blues  ) and probably my Robin again. Don't think I'll have the space for this one.

Not to mention this is a ski jacket- it's really friggin' hot in it, even in fall weather (you know what that's like).
No, I think this is my cold weather costume. 8)

Ah, Toronto, it's the early Atlanta...

Not trying to be mean but you say your doing a T2 suit and your useing pics from Terminator 1?

Yeam ummm... You try finding pics on the web of the T2 version. I've tried every search I can think of. In fact the best pics I have are screencaps stored on my computer and this one (which I think is from a PSoL sale a couple of years ago):

Image

However there are dozens and dozens of pics of the T1 soldier- pretty much all of Reese.

Quote:
some tips for your suit is distress it plenty, get a butt load of ash and smear it in(along with some earth tones) cause remember, your "fighting" in a nuked city

Thanks man- I hate having to "dirty" up this jacket as I plan to wear it on the street when I'm not costuming.

Quote:
as per your leg guards, u won't find the T1 style guards off the shelf, all custom leather made

Yup- That's why I'm going to make them myself. What were the T2 leg guards?

You guys look awesome by the way! :D

I know I keep saying this is a T2 version- really if I had the correct jacket (and carpet material) I would make this a T1 style soldier. But the jacket isn't right, the padding is wrong, the gun is wrong, yada yada yada.

Really it's a Terminator 1-2 inspired Future soldier. :)

What I would like to know is what they used in T1 to attach the "bomb" to Reese's shoulder. I would also like to know what the sight on his plasma gun is. It looks like the front half is just a regular telescopic sight and the "box" could be one of those portable Panasonic TVs from the early 80s:

ImageImage

These are tr-1020 and 1030 models.

Dom- thanks man! This will mostly make it's debut at whatever Halloween gathering I end up at this year. It's getting a little too chilly out for tights.

Still nothing on the shin guards, but lots of suggestions on what to search under. I agree with you, it will probably be too late to get something if we find "the" item. Using some black vinyl and off the shelf buckles and straps will look just as good till then.

AW, I have to politely disagree, I have seen these same leg guards for sale years ago. Considering Cameron's tendency to use off the shelf stuff, I believe these are/were commercially made.

As to the scanner attached to the rifle, my idea is that it was one of those portable camera scopes like those used on the motion tracker in Aliens. It's about the same size and shape and they could actually transmit video to it to simulate the HK air unit that Reese and his team spots.

I like what you're doing here, Kev, it's looking cool, really good costume idea.

By the way, Vin Deisel is in talks to star in T4; director McG (Charlies Angels) is in discussions to direct (!). Check out some news here:

The sight on the T2 soldiers was an old laser sight with a hama viewer attached. The rifle is a Bullpup casing for a Mini14.

You ain't seen nothin' yet!

Gave it the "Endo Rifle" treatment last night:

Based off the paint scheme of the T2 40W Plasma Rifle:

The silver turned out a bit scratchy looking so I'm going to camouflage the imperfections by giving it a bit of a blackwash.

Now reaaalllly looks like it belongs in the Terminator series!!! :D

I also finished painting one of my pouches blue/gray:

Image

Happy with the result! One thing- the paint sure makes the pouch nice and stiff! I was going to stuff it with paper so it would look full; but now I don't have to! :D

Now that nerf works rather well for the Phased Plasma Rifle.

Now as for the attire,as everyone else has said Kev,Excellent work.

Andrew,Nooo that cannot be good news having Vin Deisel, though I did hear Cena (Wrestler) was also interested.

I`m guessing for the terminator role, any sucker (has the build) would be perfect. After all look at the Dark Horse Comics, they even had a child Terminator.

An excellent idea & excellently executed.

Kev- AWESOME!! I really like what you've done w/ the Longshot! It really adds to it. I'm still surprised at what can be done with that piece. Thinking it might be good to buy up a few to set aside for future projects, for when they stop producing them.

And, like Dom said, you're inspiring me to do a T1 Soldier as well!!

Too bad I thru away an old moving blanket two weeks ago!!!

Understand all too well the heat issue in Atlanta!!

Keep it coming Kev!
