The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It was great seeing you guys again. I wish I could've spent more time with ya but USCM was but one of many things vying for my attention over the weekend.

But it's a miracle I got my ass out of bed for the parade.

It truly was a special time. Hanging out with the guys, sharing lots and lots of laughter, it doesn't get much more enjoyable than that!

The Colony Sweep, omg! I can't wait to see it! It was awesome! And there were two done!! Wooooo-Hoooooo! Why should we only do one?!

Joe Ranger- two things: Yes, there is a Chris FNG update and it is awesomely positive! You will be seeing him here...

And, there was a guy that looked very similar to you, so similar that I hollered out "Joe Ranger! You made it!!" But, he didn't turn around...

Yup- Chris was there! It was fantastic seeing him again! Unfortunately I can't comment on whether or not he'll be returning to the board; it's up to Chris.

Wow! What a Con! D-Con was absolutely MASSIVE this year! Because of the construction in the Marriott, a good portion of the convention was in the Hilton (it's basically becoming the role of the Marriott with the Exhibitor's and Dealer's rooms).

For those who were worried about there not being too much traffic in the Marriott for the fan tables... BOY WERE YOU WRONG!

It was crazy crowded EVERYWHERE!

The Marriott was a crowded as the Hyatt used to be, the Hilton has become the new Marriott... and the Hyatt is basically closed for being too crowded!

I don't have many pictures at all (and the only time I had my camera with me was when I was wearing my Grayson costume). But here are the few:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(It seems in this one that my camera has an X-ray setting I didn't know about. I would have taken a lot more pictures if I had known otherwise   ).

Image

Image

"One of these guys is doing his own thing... Tell me can you guess which one?"

These next pics are of me trying to re-create scenes from the Grayson trailer- the actual screenshots are first:

Image

Image

Image

(Here Grayson has just tried punching Superman in the face, breaking his own hand)

Image

And in these last ones, there is a scene where Grayson is beat up by two of the Joker's female ninjas:

Image

It turned out that Angie (Mermear- Tentacle Chris' wife) and a friend of her's were dressed as Joker women (doesn't feel right calling them "Goons" ). I couldn't believe what a perfect opportunity it was to reproduce that scene!

Image

(That's Angie on the right- didn't catch her friend's name unfortunately).

Well that's it for pics- like I've always said, I'm a cam-whore; not a shutter-bug.

One year is waaaaay too long to wait to do it all over again.

Oh yeah, one more thing... Next year...

I'M FLYING!

I'M FLYING!

I'M FLYING!

Gents and gals... this having been my 3rd D*con...

WAS THE BEST DRAGON*CON I'VE EVER DONE!

It was so great to hang out with a bunch of like minded individuals. Sunday was a bit sad... being in a non Marine costume and seeing a mini-colony sweep... I wept a little inside.

The parade rocked! The sweep rocked! Eating with the gang rocked! Was great to talk to everyone! Woot!

Remember, DragonCon is not truly over if you buy the Spat Gone Wild DVD and watch it every day for the next year.

It's like you are there again... but different.

Or I could just invite a bunch of drunken poo-flinging monkeys (or evil cat nuns) over and dress them in duct tape costumes. That's like D*Con too.

Shannon. The characters are collectively named Dee Dee. They're from the Batman Beyond video "Return of the Joker", and they're the granddaughters of Harley Quinn. And kick all kinds of ass!

Thanks Treadwell! Gonna have to pick up that dvd now! :D

This is from a post by a member of the Brotherhood of the Bat board-

Not exactly good news:

Quote:
Well, yesterday morning (or was it this morning? I lost track. It really feels like a solid week of no sleep at all)... As I was walking back from the coffee place across from the Hyatt, I saw that the Fire Marshal, two Atlanta cops a detective and three hotel upper management were all talking about stuff, in the Hyatt's upper atrium area and being the inquisitive a--hole I am, I asked what the whole scoop was.

The hotel manager wanted me to step aside with him, but I planted my feet and pretty much addressed everyone.

First, I commended the way the cops and hotel employees acted towards people who didn't seem to want to listen to anyone at all, while at the same time, I basically sh-t on the Dragon Con volunteers and their pathetic need to treat others like dirt.

I hate people who get glory on treating other people like sh-t and get satisfaction from it. I hate it.

Anyway... They ALL said that the Dragon Con people (the ones who run it) HAVE TO BE notified by all of us, that something needs to be done. The hotel manager said that they get so much business throughout the year, that having SO many people in their hotels, simply isn't a consideration, as far as profit. They lower some of the room rates for the Dragon Con people and the hotel fills up from there. Where normally, they fill up their hotel for about 80% of the year ANYWAY.

He said that whether they have Dragon Con taking place there or not, isn't a big deal to them. It's actually six and one half of the other, because they now have to keep MORE people on staff at that time, to handle security and make sure the crowds are being dealt with and that costs THEM money.

He said that on the last NIGHT of the Con (Sunday), the HVNP's were all asked to leave by the hotel staff, due to their hostility and how they acted to the crowds. That's pretty bad. When the people who're representing the Dragon Con administration are KICKED OUT, because they're acting like d--ks, that's pretty f---ing bad.

And the Fire Marshal said he's wanting the whole event moved to the local convention center or out of town entirely. I don't blame him.

There's NO reason that Dragon Con be held in these hotels any longer. The crowds grew by 10,000 pre-registered guests and by 5,000 walk-ups this year. It was the same last year too. This is getting bigger year after year. It's time to move it to somewhere that can handle it.

(Edited the naughty words  )

Yeesh- although I would like the idea of it being in a gigantic convention center like SDCC that can handle the overwhelming crowd- the thought of having to travel back and forth from the hotel you're staying at to the convention is definitely unwelcome. :(

Of course- nothing is set in stone, this is just someone's opinion based on something overheard. But considering how crowded it was this year, and the absolute idiocity of the volunteer D-Con staff in the Hyatt, it wouldn't surprise me if the Hyatt didn't want to host the event there again.

Wow Kevin, that's certainly interesting news! I can see it headed that way though. The Hyatt DCon Goons were such jerks that it would spoil my "good time buzz" whenever I went over there. So, after a few times of that, I just didn't anymore. Why bother when there were so many of us enjoying ourselves at the Marriott?

Point/Counterpoint to moving it to a Convention Center-

One large space to have everyone in. Easy to move around in. None of this spread out, crossing streets, etc.

Loose all the DCon atmosphere-

Damn hard to switch outfits during the day...

Can see now the lines for the shuttle buses...

What happens at night? Is the Con over for the day?

Or, just pick it back up at the Marriott?

DCon Volunteers- Why have Volunteers? The Con isn't a cheap thing to attend, but if the volunteer thing isn't working, how about paying for help? Hmmm, never know, might get better results outa paid help.

Urg. Giant con hotel reminds me of Megacon in Florida. Horrible to get into and out of... too tough to enter and move around the room b/c of tons of people. At least Megacon has 1 hotel attached, but dang if it doesn't fill up quickly.

I don't know either but I'm guessing it's the volunteer D-Con staff with the headsets, the "NO PHOTOGRAPHY" signs, and the sh--ty attitudes.

They were all idiots.

On the other hand the Marriott staff was firm but polite. The one security guy had a great line he kept saying...

"Every moment is a Kodak moment, just not in front of the escalators!"

Marriott and Hilton were definately the 2 best hotels this year. Plus with the inside of the Marriott looking like a Hive or Weyland-Yutani corporate building was awesome.

Well, yes the depression is setting in......but I've too much to worry about to let it get to me.

Car needs cleaning, nice 1900 miles more on it now.
Costume repairs and also new items for next year.

Ya see, after winning the WY patches in the raffle (thanks again Pete) I had an nice idea......more to follow!!!

Seeing FNG again was awesome. Hopefully he'll find his way back here, but in his own time.
Again it was great to see the D*Con usuals - had a blast guys.
But we had so many new people - fantastic!!
Not to mention 2 bugs as well.
Sorry I did not formally introduce myself to so many of you.......brain was in overload!!!

Now as Kev posted......about the Hyatt.
This was my first time in the Hyatt staying in the main tower.
Cherie and I have always got a room in the International tower.
While the hotel staff we're really nice and patient, it was the D*Con volunteers and security staff that really put me off.
And also, sad to say a lot of the disabled people being extremely rude to people who were waiting in line a long time for elevators.

Anyway, it was still a blast. Live and learn for next year!!!
Plan better for crowd control and hire professionals to control them, not idiots with staff badges :)

Also, I did not take any pictures this weekend (except for using Ripsticks camera), I got video!!!
Some of you may have missed the 'Full Metal Jacket' re-run by Dom and Shawn outside Max Lagers. Also the shenanigans Sunday night in the Marriot and I know you all missed Rick's and my adventure to get ice early Monday morning!! (VERY early)

More to follow!!
Sound off everyone, let us know you're home safe!!
