Under normal circumstances, I seldom post these things that come through the email. However, this one looks to be far too important not to post here. If this is old news, ... sorry. Quote: >Read this before your next gas fill-up. Folks: Please take a couple

This one is just another twist in the "look out for hypodermic needles in the seat cushions of your local movie theater" hoax. |

The trouble is that these kind of hoaxes can give people ideas... |

WOW - shocking to say the least. But sending it out in an e-mail to 'forward to everyone you know' really turns me off. If it was true you'd think it would be on the news, local and national. Still, thanks for posting Tom. It's something to think about. Just hope the 'copycat' part in that doesn't get acted on. |

Thanks for debunking this, fellas. I'm glad that I didn't send it on and am going to reply back to the person that sent it to me with a link to the above. Hoax or not, I don't find any humor in it at all, erred on the side of caution, and took it seriously. (As most of us would.) In any event, I will be more aware of the gas pump handles in the future. The 'copycat' part of this scenario is what really set off a red flag, to me. |

Indeed. My Mother forwards stuff like this to me all the time. Protect your PIN number, stay safe at the gas station, etc. One she sent was kind of disturbing... Apparently there is a kind of auto theft where the criminals attach a large piece of paper to your rear or front windshield depending on the direction you are parked (so you don't notice it at first). You get in you car, notice the paper, and have to get out to remove it thinking it's a huge flyer. That's when the thieves make their move to steal your car (with the door open/unlocked and the keys in the ignition). This senario has never been on the news, but car-jacking is no joke. A cousin of mine works for the Toronto Transit System driving a bus. He says he sees car-jackings all the time. What the theives do is target a BMW or other expensive car with a single driver. They rear end the car lightly enough to cause the driver to stop, but not to cause significant damage to the bumper. When the driver gets out to inspect the damage and walks to the rear of his car, 3 or 4 thugs get out of their car, beat up the driver, and take off in the BMW leaving their own car behind (which is usually a stolen POS anyway). Scary stuff. |
