Kinda same. I have no idea what reminded me to log in after so long.

Sadly there seems to have been a lot of migration to Facebook in the last few years (although like yourselves, folks are still members here of course). I get why to a certain extent as it's easier to post images for example, but the real problem with facebook is that there are SO many groups/pages to do with the exact same subject.

For example there might be different pages called "Pulse Rifle Fans", "M41A Pulse Rifle Fans" and "Aliens Pulse Rifle Fans". I see this a lot with the Movie prop and costume pages. Also it's much harder to try to search for something on Facebook, even minutes after it's been posted for some reason.

So while Facebook isn't going away any time soon, let's try and keep the Aliens Legacy Forum alive!

Facebook?
I tried to create an account once and it told me that I wasn't me.
Then it e-mailed me to tell me that someone was trying to log into the account I don't have.
This forum is way better.

There were a lot of things that led me away - life got busy, mom passed away, I wasn't able to do conventions as much, and honestly, there were some people that were being really rude and making me uncomfortable, not just here, but also on Facebook. The benefit that Facebook had was that I could at least block them there. But I miss so many of you, and the community we had here.

I feel that, I stopped posting somewhat after a certain pair of people threw a hissy fit and got themselves booted several years ago...bad memories from other fan groups started surfacing again thanks to that. Since then my ability to log in has been very spotty thanks to a bad certificate or something.

Still, welcome back to both of you. Formation is at 0800.

That's sad that Facebook is where discussion has migrated to. All I hear from people is how much they absolutely hate Facebook groups, andI have no desire to create a Facebook account. :|

I don't bother with groups on Facebook. I'm only there for family, for the most part, though I do keep up with a bunch of friends I met through here over there. For interests I've mostly been on a variety of Discords, mostly music related.

Whenever I post a reply to any of the Alien(s) related FB groups... which is rare,
I always post a link back the relevant thread here, where 99% of the time, the question has already been answered.

I wonder if we could get the Chatroom back on the forum......?

I would just HATE that.... /sarcasm

Pretty sure I was in there enough I thought you all were gonna start charging me rent.

Or could just use the Msger group that's attached to the Aliens Legacy Facebook group... I know not everyone has a FB account, but I'm pretty sure you can use Msger without a FB account (maybe... happy to send someone an invite from the chat group if they want to guinea pig it...)

One main problem that might put people off is everytime I try to visit, I get a message saying "security risk, this site does not have a valid certificate".

People will see this and think the site has been taken over by hackers trying to infect their computers with malware and they'll turn away.

Simon I've never had this message on any device that I view the forum on. Has anyone else seen this?

Yup, for some time now; As Simon said, I also suspect it'll be stopping a number of ppl from continuing / trying to join.

The URL that comes back looks like this... (Ive had to put spaces in to stop it from recognising it as a url)

https : // forum. alienslegacy. com:80/ viewtopic.php.....

If you remove the :80 from the url, it works and you can see your post.

This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time.

Post subject:  Re: Blast from the Past

that is because many websites require a https, which means secure. the forum is over 12 years old, so that was not an option when we built the forum. right now, we are discussing how to upgrade the forum, so hopefully we will have some news shortly.

I don't have screen shots, but I think I got that trying to access it from my office computer.

I'm sorry that I apparently missed the heyday of this place. There are so many great posts here, although it's too bad there are also so many broken links. I don't use facebook, and this site seems like it was/is the go-to place for Aliens fandom. Btw, I also receive the "Not Secure" message.
