The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I found this RACAL Amplivox Minilite file and I need to break it into smaller parts and export it as something I can put into my slicer. (cura)(.stl)

I don't have any CAD experience, does anyone know how to do this? I am a member of grabcad and I have this file, I can send it to anyone who wants it.If someone can help me out I can print you one in return.

The same build is on thingiverse, but the file is incomplete, which is why I need to use the original cad file

The thingiverse link had instructions to convert it using FreecCAD, I imported it but could not figure out how to select parts, so have exported the entire model as an STL. It's a start!

I had the exact same experience. I'm definitely learning stuff though.

In the free cad software is the model broken into the parts?
If so, copy each individual one into a new drawing and then import into your slicer.

If it’s not broken up, you’ll have to select and copy what you want and do the same but then add any missing faces from the cut (hope that makes sense?)

In the instructions it shows it as parts that are selectable. When you import into FreeCAD it briefly shows the individual parts listed but then collapses into a single item and I can't figure out how to expand it again. Would be better to select and export individually but the single STL can be broken down and edited to work otherwise. I'll have a bit more of a play :).

EDIT: It was to do with the import .STP preferences automatically combining the objects, after changing that setting and importing the parts are now selectable for individual STL export. The files may still need some work to make them printable, resin prints would be ok.

(Files are now zipped into two sets, see later posts)

oh this is awesome, well done man. I'll download your zip file and learn how to get them to that point as well. This is a great time for me to learn something about CAD. Hopefully tonight I can catch up to where you're at and contribute something to this CAD lesson. Reaper, that's what I was attempting to do but wasn't able to select large enough pieces, just small fragments, faces. Once I learn a little about this feeCAD software I might see if there's a better one out there that's got a better interface. I hear Sketchup is really self explanatory. There's a couple guys in this forum who are brilliant with CAD drawings. Martinr1000,smartazzmrtgnnr, and I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. They've helped me out massively also.

I've just split the temple box into its three main parts. Part of it is meant to be a metal clip which would not print well. It's a great model, the parts can be split down even further if need be.

If the files are not large, please see if you can upload to the forums.

Reaper any USCM near you with a printer?
My printer is pretty tied up but I can eventually print you a headset if you wanna pay shipping.
I've got a Huge Sulaco to make first and parts for a Ripley flamethrower.
