Overall compared to last year, I'm pretty unimpressed.
The good...
The "Star Trek Legends" game looks cool.
Even though I mocked it, I have to say "Wii" actually looks like an okay system. With a stupid name.
The trailer for "Neverwinter Nights 2" looked cool. Still waiting to view the in game footage...
Again, "Battlefield 2142" looks great.
"Chromehounds" looks like it will fill the gap in mech games left by the vanishing of the Mech Assault series.
360's "Gears of war" doesn't look too bad.
"Armored Core 4."
The bad...
Dirty Harry. What the hell? So, when are they going to crank out an "Airport '76" game. Sheesh. I'm tired of all the game companies thinking the 70s are cool again.
$600.00 for the new PS3????? God... I may be forced to actually buy a 360 now. And I thought THAT was an insanely priced system. I just don't know if Killzone 2 will be enough for me to plunk down that many credit card payments for a new system. OH, and don't forget, the SYSTEM costs $600... figure an extra $50 for another controller, and another $50-60 for one bloody game! Yikes, that's half the cost of my last motorcycle...
No "Killzone 2" footage... or much of anything. The story now is that the KZ2 footage shown last E3 was indeed game footage, but it was rendered at 8 fps (using alpha dev hardware), and was sped up to 60fps for the trailer. Supposedly the "final" dev kits won't be hitting the publishers until September or october. Makes launching a system in November... interesting...
The ugly...
Did I mention the PS3 price? I did? Dang.
Getting back to the coverage of the con, not enough coverage of PC games. And TOO MUCH REHASHING of the dang "big titles." I didn't see any mention of Killzone for the PSP (downloaded some videos... different take on the game...).
Overall, I found last year's E3 coverage to be better, but it's looking like the 360 will be leading the next gen console war by Christmas this year. We'll have to wait and see.
