I think I have found my calling.
At one time I thought joining the army was something I wanted to do.
However I really don't think I'm cut out for army life.
There ha always been a side of me that wants to go do something though.
Something that I feel is a worthy cause.
I think I have found it.

Actually if I did get the chance to join the (yes, I know they're fictional) Colonial Marines I know I wouldn't see any action. I'd probably be posted to the catering corps - full metal jacket-potato! :lol:

Tried joining the military out of high school but got bounced due to a medical condition. :(

But if reality was no object ( ;) ) then either a jet jock or swat/seal.

But you can call me Bond... James Bond. ;)

If reality was in place... maybe Coast Guard or other law enforcement.

Last year (or the year before) at D-Con Derek (uscmgrunt) was asking us "If the USCM was real, would you sign up?"

Pretty much all of us said yes. My answer...

Well as long as I don't get killed! I mean if it's about hanging out with you guys and getting laid, terrific! :lol:

I wanted to join the Air Force when I was 19- but I had injured my back and would not have passed the physical. My life ended up going in a very different direction.

Over the years I came to realize that being a soldier is much more serious than most of us are led to believe. I came to grips with the fact that I would rather enjoy "playing soldier" with our fictional USCM.


But if I could run away---

The army. Yup, been there, done that for 23 years and change. That's what I did. Now I get my military jollies thru USCM. So yes, if it was in the future, I would have joined the USCM.

Right out of Ranger School, the Army put me on "Inactive Reserve". Peace had broken out (remember that brief glimmer of peace in 1990?) and the cold war was over.
So I signed up for BUDS, Basic Underwater Demolition(Navy Seal basic training), with the Navy.
However, a custody battle with the Army stalled my entry and I met my would be wife during the process. Suddenly, being a frogman did not seem so important. Try telling Uncle Sam you changed your mind cause...well... I met this girl...
To this day I always wonder if I could have made it through and been a Seal. I am not sure if I could have handled the cold water. If I had made it, I would have been considered a "spartan", one of the worlds most elite soldiers cross trained by both Army and Navy.
I still think about running off and joining the Seal's despite the fact that it is an absurd notion :roll:

I think I am going to go down in my basement now and "Gear Up!"

If I could run off and join......I think I'd go part of the way and just 'run off'.

I've always thought of joining the military, but you know the one thing that really turned me off?
The drinking aspect of the UK military.
I've always seen the military in the UK to be raudy drinkers. Truth be told I cannot stand raudy drinkers.
Worked in a bar for many years and was totally turned off of the British social drinking society.

Dumb I know but........what can I say ;)

Rowdy drinkers? Oh I don't know if I'd say that.
Maybe some but that's true in all walks of life.

Things might get a little bit "busier" in the all-ranks mess but evenings in the Sergeants mess are, while often lots of fun not what I'd call rowdy.
